As of this evening, the American flag at the McDonald’s on the corner of Power and McKellips is back at full-staff:

This despite the fact that another McDonald’s executive — the founder of the company’s presence in Japan — died of another heart problem. (No word on whether the Japanese flag is at half-staff on McDonald’s restaurants in Japan.)

Yesterday, Fark.com, home of All the News Too Trivial to Print, pointed out that some veterans in Florida are upset because McDonald’s restaurants there are flying the American flag at half-staff in honor of the company’s CEO, Jim Cantalupo, who died Monday of a heart attack.

“It’s a slap in the face to veterans everywhere,” one vet said. “We don’t put the flag down for the kids who are dying overseas, we damn sure don’t put it down just because he was the CEO.”

Well, ladies and gentlemen, it’s not just Florida — the McDonald’s flag blasphemy apparently stretches from sea to shining sea. And I have the photo evidence! There’s a McDonald’s on the corner of Power and McKellips in Mesa, AZ, right where my bus stop is, and this morning I took a few pictures of the flag there, which is indeed at half-staff:
