I just saw this on the cover of the Metro this morning…there is one pic where Bush is exhaling right after coming down from the bump that is awesome.
A rant about chest bumps if I may…
I hate them. When players jump into the air to bump chests they can come down and land awkwardly and possibly injure themselves. A kid I coach actually severely sprained his ankle after chest bumping a teammate after scoring a goal. If I were a college/pro coach I think I would ban the bump.
LOL Marty, leave it to a soccer player to get injured by a chest bump. Any athlete who lacks the coordination to celebrate in such a manner should be forced to watch others do so from the bench. What’s next, banning fist bumps because of the risk of a jammed finger? Or maybe high-fives – you could pull a muscle! Tell that kid to rub some dirt on that ankle, it will be fine, then get him a juice box and some orange slices.
I think banning any celebration for risk of injury in a sport like soccer is the equivalent of banning smoking at the flamethrower range.
Sorry, but injuries happen. Your kids play the sport for the love of the game–let them love freely. Just because one child has gotten a minor injury for an enthusiastic celebration does not mean you should curtail the morale of your team for the rest of your days. If you’re playing the game as it should be played (maximal effort), you’re going to have people get hurt. Part of maximal effort is being able to exuberantly high five / chest bump /cartwheel / etc. after achieving a difficult objective.
I just assumed the cadet was the one who instigated the chest bump because, having seen military academy graduations before, I know that it’s not uncommon for unsuspecting presidents to get bear hugs and the like. I was hoping that was the case there was video of it because it would be really funny to see a president (or anyone) get a chest bump who didn’t expect it. That said, both Bush and the cadet have their arms in the air, so it was obviously coordinated. But I’d still like to see the video of both of them making the conscious decision to chest bump.
Personally, I want to see the video of the Commandant when this happened. You could probably take a still frame and make it the new picture next to “apoplectic” in the dictionary. I’m sure the new lieutenant received his first thorough a**-chewing from a field grade officer shortly after the caps flew in the air. (”Um, Lieutenant _____, General _____ would like to speak with you. Immediately. As in, his exact words involved the clause ‘conscious or unconscious.’”)
Youngblai - said new lieutenant earned his chewing out - and sensible higher officers will seriously consider taking him on, cuz, at first glance, he has the potential to be an excellent Exec (or First Officer) or whatever the Captain’s (leader’s) right-hand person is called …
With that said, he shouldn’t hold his breath while trying for any political appointemnt, cuz the Lawful weenies can’t tolerate such antics … (grin) …
Yeah, I was just kidding, Joe Mama. A lot of people on this board are accused of always defending one side and I was indeed poking fun at that. Like, “Bush couldn’t have possibly goofed up a chest bump!” It’s all jest!
