“Video cameras that use video cassettes.” Hmm. That's the first time I've seen that particular formulation (at an airport, stadium, etc.) as an attempt to clarify the increasingly blurry distinction between still and video cameras. Only problem: “video cameras that use video cassettes” are well on their way to becoming obsolete!

What is a full-size DVD player? Does that mean that the portable ones you bring on planes for kids do not have to be taken out?

Maybe the TSA makes that distinction about video cameras so that people with digital cameras that also take video aren’t asking “Do I have to take my camera out? It takes 30 second video clips.”

Only if you have the money to buy a new camcorder and time/space to store the video that isn’t going onto tapes anymore.

I think that’s exactly what they were attempting to do, Lisa. But in the process, they also exempted pure camcorders that record on a hard drive, a flash card, or direct to DVD. … I just landed in Denver, BTW. I’m answering comments via cell phone while en route to baggage claim because, well, I’m a huge dork. But y’all knew that already. :)
