UT vs. Tree
Posted by on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at 7:46 pm

It’s Candace vs. Candice (and Smoky vs. The Tree) in the women’s national championship game, and Jeff vs. Jeff in the Living Room Times women’s pool, as March Madness officially ends tonight.

If the Tennessee Lady Vols, led by Candace Parker, beat the Stanford Drunken Trees Cardinal, led by Candice Wiggins, in tonight’s title showdown, then Jeff Freeze, a 1992 Indiana alum, will win the 11th annual Times women’s pool. If Stanford prevails, then Jeff Vaca, a 1982 Cal alum, will be the pool champion.

The game starts at 8:30 PM EST on ESPN. Gamecast here.

P.S. If Tennessee wins, there will be three contestants in my pools who correctly predicted both the men’s and women’s champions: Chris Aemisegger, Dan Port, and… Loyette! Heh. (If Stanford wins, there will be no such contestants.)

UPDATE: It’s 37-29 Tennessee at halftime.

UPDATE 2: The Lady Vols win!

The final score was 64-48. I guess they used up all the drama in their Final Four win over LSU:

Wow, thats gotta be painful. A Cal alum’s hopes of winning riding on the Farm? Jeff probably wants Jeff to win!

Yes, and also, Bob Dole wants Bob Dole to win. :)

  3. Leanna Loomer Says:

How do they get that outfit onto a drunken student?

  4. Brendan Loy Says:

No no no, the student is sober when he/she puts on the outfit; then they hide a flask inside the outfit and drink during the game. :) At least, that’s what one ex-Tree did…

  5. Jim Hu Says:

Tampa sure has an ugly court. It’s hard to be uglier than Reed Arena, but this mght take it, IMO.

  6. Leanna Loomer Says:

Well, it’s no fun drinking alone…

  7. Freeze Says:

GO VOLS! Oh that hurts! But for tonight anyway, GO ROCKY TOP!

  8. Jeff Says:

This is Jeff, the Cal alum…and yes, it is ironic that my chance at glory will come with the price of knowing that it was Stanfurd that allowed it to happen. But with the game nearing its home stretch, it’s looking like Jeff will win, and not Jeff. So I may be off the hook…I think.

Let it be known that, as of about 30 seconds ago, I saved a draft of the “Jeff Freeze wins women’s pool” post, and am now continuing to work on it. Will this curse that Lady Vols, as my “Amy Greca wins” post appeared to curse Memphis last night? We shall see. :)

  10. Jim Hu Says:

Congrats to the Lady Vols for completely taking Stanford out of their game. Bad time to play that badly, but the Tennessee D clearly had a lot to do with it.

    sigh.

  11. Leanna Loomer Says:

Hmm. Tree must have been sober.

I still want to know how Bruce Pearl can be both the mascot and the men’s head coach. ;)
