The New York Times busted out its MAN WALKS ON MOON / CLINTON IMPEACHED / U.S. ATTACKED headline style for Governor Spitzer’s resignation:

Meanwhile, the Post, Daily News and Newsday all seem more interested in the latest revelations about the identity of the governor’s call girl than about the fact that, er, the governor resigned yesterday. Heh. God bless tabloid journalism. (And some people say the interest in this story is primarily prurient in nature. Puh!)

It seems that Alan Dershowitz believes that Gov Spitzer should not have been involved … “As this newspaper has reported: “It isn’t clear why the FBI sought the wiretap warrant. Federal prostitution probes are exceedingly rare, lawyers say, except in cases involving organized-crime leaders or child abuse. “ …
Apparently Mr Dershowitz doesn’t realise that Spitzer is (or at least was) one of those organized-crime leaders, albeit on the law-enforcement side theoretically, rather than on the other side ..

Yeah, because engaging in illegal behavior by hiring a prostitute from time to time is equivalent to being a mob boss, great conclusion their Al, as illogical and pointlessly partisan as always.

How do you not see the crime in bringing a person across state lines for sexual pleasure?

CORNHUSKERS - I’m not sure that I think that bringing a person across state lines for sexual pleasure should be a crime, myself …
With that said, since it currently IS a crime, when it is done for the purposes of furthering prostitution (whether by a john or a pimp), then someone who does so commits a crime - and a former Attorney general who took great delight in prosecuting prostitution-related cases cannot claim innocence at all convincingly …
About-to-be-former-Governor Spitzer probably doesn’t qualify as a ‘mob boss’, except to the pure libertarians amongst us - but - he is being hoist by the legal petards he was happy to use on others …
It can truly be said that his Karma is running over his Dogma …

Cornhuskers, i never said it wasn’t a crime, i think it was, i think he is guilty and i think if the worst that happens to him is that he loses his job as governor he’s getting off too easy. I hope his wife leaves him, she deserves better. That said, its ridiculous to assert as Alasdair so poorly does that he is an organized crime LEADER in any way shape or form. Criminal? Yes. Scum? Yes! Hypocrit? Absolutely. Mob boss? Hardly.
