With Chow out, is it Oregon’s Belotti to UCLA?
Posted by on Friday, December 21, 2007 at 2:45 pm

LA Daily News is reporting that Oregon Coach Mike Belotti has met with UCLA officials regarding the Bruins’ head coaching position. Norm Chow, former USC offensive guru, has announced he is not interested in the job (followed by a collective sigh of relief from Trojan nation). Rick Neuheisel, the scourge of both the Colorado and Washington programs, is also still in the running.

  1. Sandy Underpants Says:

I don’t really know why the BruinsNation was so opposed to Chow. Of course, I’m glad they didn’t want him, and why can’t PC bring Chow back as the OC next season? Ego? I don’t know how Belotti could walk away from Oregon after bringing that program to the heights he has. He was probably one bad (leg) break from a National Championship this season, and UCLA/Oregon are pretty much equal in their unprestigious football legacy. Although UCLA has the hotter babes.

  2. BK Says:

Belotti’s wife is crazy, she would love LA.

  3. B. Minich Says:

Hrmmmm, Brendan has been too quiet as of late. I mean, there have been good college basketball games - Duke lost, Gonzaga lost, and the bowl season has started.

I’m starting to suspect . . . that his wife has had a baby. Or something.

  4. Brendan Loy Says:

    Nope. Not yet. :)

P.S. Re: Gonzaga, it’s hard to get very excited about the Zags’ wins or losses, because of all the injuries they’re suffering right now. We’re not really getting a look at the team that will be (hopefully!) playing in March. It’s frustrating, because the WCC season won’t provide much insight either. It’s going to be a real mystery, right up until the tournament, how good this team will be, once they get healthy (if they get healthy).

  6. Scientizzle Says:

I’m pulling for Neuheisel…He’s sure to ruin the program even further. I call scholarship restrictions in three years.

I find it amusing that any football coach from Temple could be considered for a position at a historically solid, recognizable program like fucla. (I suppose getting 4 wins out of that program is impressive…but c’mon.)

  7. Scientizzle Says:

    OT…but too good to resist.

Duke may suck, but at least their basketball players have never been kidnapped, robbed and sexually assaulted by creepy perverts…

    that look like this.

    Wow.

  8. C. Bassett Says:

Belotti’s saying he’s not interested. Big sigh of relief from me, as it likely would have meant Chris Petersen taking the job at Oregon.

  9. Andrew Says:

Belotti would have been a pipe dream for fUTLA; he likely was using this to angle for more money from Phil Knight. Still, Belotti under-recruits and underachieves every year, so he’d be a great candidate over in Westwood — but no hire would bring a bigger smile to my face than if they hired Slick Rick. In fact, if the rumors hold up and the ‘ruins hire Slick Rick while Dewayne Walker bolts to take over the DC position at U-Dub, I will gladly ship a six-pack of beer to David K (his choice) to express my immense satisfaction at the development.

  10. Wobbly H Says:

Belotti’s out. I don’t know why he would make a backwards move, unless he was angling for another raise from Phil Knight.

In other news, Davie, how would you feel about your namesake (Bob Davie) getting off the schnide and taking over as Lionel’s defensive coordinator?

  11. K. Says:

Sandy Underpants, Bruins Nation virulently hates almost everyone not named “Ben Howland”, because he is the only thing saving their glorious school from total failure in athletics (even the Trojan women’s soccer team took the national championship from the top ranked lady Bruins this year). They even coined the moniker “CHOKER” in response to a possible Chow/DeWayne Walker coaching combo. Because, you know, Chow and Walker coaching would be UNDENIABLY a bad thing, even before a single game be played.

Bruins Nation is kind of sickening, actually. If you ever want to see the outcome of massive inferiority complexes and inexplicably unchecked hatred towards pretty much anything not decked in baby blue and gold, check out BN. It’s small peen syndrome all around.

  12. Wobbly H Says:

Haha, B. Minich. It’s true…every time there is a lack of blogging or responses to posts, I suspect that Beckles is finally shitting out that baby of theirs.
