With A-Rod probably leaving the Bronx and Torre already gone, the B*stards have reportedly offered Joe Girardi the job as manager.
So they fired the always-playoff-ready Torre to replace him with a guy whose only job as manager left the Marlins just shy of the Wild Card? I may not like Torre as a Yankee, but as a manager, he’s solid; I doubt that the Yankees can do much better than him. I might end up eating my words, but replacing Torre with Girardi doesn’t seem right.
(You know what else doesn’t seem right? The fact that the guys I grew up watching play the game are now old and are employed as either commentators or coaches!)

In between Billy Martin and Joe Torre, the Yankees spent most of the 80s wandering through the wilderness. That was with Steinbrenner’s money and Steinbrenner’s input. Apparently it took the Steinbrenner family 12 years to forget how hard it is to get to the World Series without a good manager. They will find out again and soon.

What doesn’t seem right about it?
A former Yankee who was manager of the year in 2006?
Plus he is a young guy who can relate with his players…considereing he only stopped playing himself like 4 year ago.

Because I doubt he’ll be able to keep a lid on the various personalities and conflicts. That was Torre’s gift: he was able to massage various and sundry egos, starting with the Boss, on to A-Rod, Jeter, Clemens and the rest (past and present). That is in addition to living in a the Fishbowl called “Yankee Net”, and dealing with the NY sports media.
And he was sucessful at it. Torre is the only reason, IMO, that the Yanks didn’t implode after their horrendous start. He kept them from tearing into each other and making a bad situation worse.
Maybe Giradi up to the challenge. But Mattingly is apparently leaving, too. That’s a really big challenge, then. Will the Boss allow Giradi to assemble his own coaching staff, or will he meddle?

The boss is crazy. The boss’ sons run the show now.
There really aren’t that many conflicting personalities on the Yankees now. A-Rod is out, Damon and Jeter are tame. The team is an older group of ball players who will respond to a good manager. Girardi never really left the game and should be adecent fit.

They said this is goodbye to A-Rod, and I hope they stick to it.
Yankee fans (both of you) can continue this here.

Joe Girardi is a very good manager. I’m not knocking Joe Torre, he’s good too, but he’d clearly worn out his effectiveness in New York. The Yanks got the right guy here, no question.
