The USC Trojans are ranked #1 in the preseason coaches’ poll, with 45 of the 60 first-place votes. And of course, John David Booty is #1 in Heisman hype.
LSU is ranked #2, Florida #3, Texas #4 and Michigan #5. Rutgers is #17, Boise State #23, Hawaii #24, and Notre Dame tied with South Carolina for, effectively, #29. Speaking of South Carolina, hapless Duke got a vote, again, thanks to Steve Spurrier.

Followers of the ‘Non-BCS’ should not forget #22 TCU. In their second game, they play Texas at Texas. If they get past that, they should cruise to a late season showdown with BYU, which could set them up for the Sugar Bowl. Unlikely, but the scenario certainly can’t be overlooked.
It’d make things very interesting if TCU and Boise State/Hawaii are both undefeated come December. Especially if it’s BSU. TCU would have had a more impressive season with a win over Texas, but BSU, in this scenario, would have won 25 straight games. I’d love to see the debate on which team deserves the trip to New Orleans. There’d also be discussion on two BCS bowls picking up the two teams in fairness, as well as minor rumblings on BSU deserving to be in the championship game.
But of course, TCU will lose to Texas, Boise State will lose to Washington and Hawaii will lose to Boise State, making all of my pre-season thoughts useless.

Boise State will lose to Washington
Please oh please let this be true. Don’t get me wrong, i’m a big fan of Boise State, but if Washington can just make it through this season with a 6-6 record it would be awesome, its the most brutal schedule in the world…

In terms of scheduling brutality, I’d stack Notre Dame’s first 8 games against any other 8-game stretch of any team in the country this season.
And then there are the last 4 games…

Washington probably will beat a team like Boise State or Cal this year, because that blind squirrel (Ty) seems to get a nut every once in a while. He’ll balance it out with a loss to Syracuse or Stanford, though.
