Nope, not a software unlocker, but a hardcore, hardware unlocking that requires soldering.
Kinda glad that I actually have my mobile service wtih AT&T anyway, so this isn’t really a big deal for me.

Two software solutions are being announced today as well, and atleast one claims it works even if you do a restore of your iPhone’s software.

The corporate entity feeling the pain is ATT. They just paid a BIG hunk of cash to have exclusive rights and then *POOF* your captive audience is gone.
Another question is what will happen when these phones come back to Apple for battery replacement. At that point they will probably have their hardware changed out to disallow carrier unlocking.

The legality of this is questionable at this point, there are some issues being hashed out in court already. There IS an exception in the DMCA regarding unlocking cell phones, but its a pretty narrow one, basically you are allowed to unlock it to use it yourself, and there have been some cases of a phone company successfully suing someone who sold unlocking services.
