All done with ceremonies. Going out to dinner now. Love thee, Notre Dame.

Apparently the Architecture students decided to have some fun with their headgear. :) We're inside the Joyce Center getting lined up for the universitywide commencement.

Lined up in front of the law school, getting ready to head over to the Basilica for the hooding ceremony. I'm at the back of the A-L line.

Woohoo!

The universitywide commencement ceremony will be webcasted here, starting at 1:25 PM EST. I guess there’s no webcast of the law-school diploma ceremony that follows at 4:00 PM. But of course, I’ll be liveblogging throughout the day. :)

Venus & the Moon
Posted by on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at 9:13 pm

If the sun has set where you are, go outside and look west. The Moon and Venus are right next to each other, and it’s spectacular.

On the eve of my graduation from USC, there was a lunar eclipse. Tonight, on the eve of my graduation from Notre Dame, we get this. Cool.

UPDATE: Here’s a picture of the celestial pair, taken when the sky was still quite bright:

You can also view a wider shot that shows a jet plane flying by.

Alas, I wasn’t able to get any Venus-and-the-Moon-and-the-Dome shots this time around, because I was too busy packing to walk over to the necessary vantage point (and driving there would risk losing our precious parking spot). But I did get a nice picture of the Dome earlier in the day, from a vantage point I’d never seen before — the intersection of Cleveland and Portage, looking southeast toward campus:

I took that picture out the driver’s side window while waiting at a stoplight. :)

Oh, and speaking of packing…

The Sens eliminated the Sabres in Game 5 in OT today. Congrats to Ottawa, but man, what an awful playoff showing by Buffalo. Yuck.
