Brendan’s recent positive experience with Best Buy notwithstanding, the store doesn’t have a reputation for being that good to consumers. A few months back, it came out that in at least some locations, Best Buy employees were using an internal website with prices different than those shown on Best Buy’s Internet site to scam customers into paying more for items than what they were originally advertised at. Suffice it to say, people were not pleased by this, and the state of Connecticut (or are you guys a commonwealth or something?) is taking Best Buy to court over this incredibly shady practice. Three cheers for the nutmeggers!

“…the state of Connecticut (or are you guys a commonwealth or something?)”
Something. :) You’re thinking of our distinguished Neighbor to the North, the Commonwealth of Lowells, Cabots, Kennedys, and carpetbagging Romneys ;>. (Then of course there’s the mighty regional hegemonist to our east, the State of Rhode Island & Providence Plantations, but nevermind about those big bullies now :)
And yeah: Hooray for Us, and especially for our Consumerfriendly & Cameraloving Courtroom Crusader, Lifetime Attorney General Dick Blumenthal :>.

Best Buy tried to scam me too! They kept adding “late” charges to my balance after I had already paid it off in full, a year and a half ahead of schedule.
Whom can I contact in Connecticut to help uncover Best Buy’s nefarious ways?

More best buy badness:
I was supposed to get a 100$ gift card with purchase of modem and comcast cable internet. I mailed away for this in September 2006. I still don’t have it. Three times I have tried to get them to send it to my address. They say the post office won’t deliver there. Guess what, I don’t live in Cuba and somehow everyone else in the universe (especially bill senders) is able to reach me there. I gave them my parent’s address four weeks ago tomorrow. Still no gift card.
Let’s just say you all know what 4-7 wants to do to best buy corporate, and for once he thinks he might have some help.

Press release re AG/DCP lawsuit against Best Buy

It seems like every time I turn around, Best Buy is in the news for doing something shady.
Not too long ago, Best Buy got into trouble for offering Xbox 360s only in “bundles”, which included games and accessories that shot up the price a few hundred dollars. You couldn’t just buy the console itself from them. The Oregon Department of Justice got involved with an investigation, and Best Buy began offering refunds to everyone that bought a bundled Xbox. I don’t think what they did was illegal(though there’s considerable debate on the subject), but it’s generally considered Not a Nice Thing to Do.

When does Wrestlemania 23 go on sale?
And what’s the price Best Buy is quoting?
