Time to break out the beer! Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series between the Buffalo Sabres and the New York Rangers is about to get underway in Buffalo. (Complete schedule here.)
You can read previews of the series here, here and here. Bfloblog has an open thread.
LET’S GO, BUFF-A-LO!!!
UPDATE: I’ve been too busy engaging in a political flame war to update the score of the game, but Buffalo has just scored three goals in the course of four minutes, and now leads 3-0 at the end of the second period. Woohoo!
UPDATE 2: YAAAY!!! Buffalo wins, 5-2!

I’m not usually one to complain when the ref’s questionable calls kinda help my team because hey, why look a gift horse in the mouth, eh? But…while I think the Sabres would have won that game regardless, I did think there were a couple of weak calls against the Rangers that, if I were a Rangers’ fan, would have really pissed me off. They were borderline…but ultimately weak calls and I mean, come on. This is a contact sport. It ain’t golf.
That being said, WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Excellent. I banned my mother from watching as she is a notorious jinx. I’m happy to see she honored the ban.
Go Sabres!!!

That was a much better game than any in the Sabres-Isles series. That 1st series was mostly about the Isles trying to clutter the ice and score junk goals. The 1st game here was all about speed, playmaking, and talent vs. talent. Much more fun to watch.
I have a lot of respect for Jagr. Mainly because of the nice things he said about the Sabres early in the year. It’s a shame we couldn’t have acquired him somehow — despite being a total superstar-stud, he would actually fit on our team.
Looking forward to game 2.
