Idol Top 7 thread
Posted by on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 8:12 pm

Just to be sure I won’t forget this time, I’m posting this now: after tonight’s show is over, put your American Idol predictions here! Who’s getting voted off this week?

Also, for future weeks (maybe starting when we get to the Top 4), would anyone who isn’t participating in the contest be willing to serve as the e-mail point person for collecting everyone’s picks and then revealing them on the blog each Wednesday just after the deadline? There will come a point where we’ll need to vote anonymously in order to avoid blatant strategic voting. (For example, when there are only two contestants left, everyone would want to vote for whoever the leader didn’t vote for, which could in turn encourage the leader to try and change his vote at the last possible second, etc.)

P.S. Current standings after the jump.

Jay Johnson 9
Brendan Loy 9
Jen Featherston 8
Marty West 6
Rebecca Loy 6
Melissa Clouthier 6
Derek Walden 5
Mark Gardner 5
Kate Spitz 5
Kevin Hauschulz 4
Toni Namnath 4
Scott Fort 3
David K. 3
Vicki from NJ 3

Sanjaya really needs to go home this week… hopefully every other performance from here on out is AWESOME to increase the odds it will happen…

That said, I’m a little worried about Jordin because of Ryan’s asinine comment, “I think you’re safe this week” or whatever he said. That’s the sort of thing that makes voters complacent…

  2. NDLauren Says:

I’d collect the votes for you if need be. I’ve been sort of watching but haven’t been participating in the contest (after tonight however, really and truly, Sanjaya better be gone-that was just utterly atrocious).

  3. Anon Says:

The fact that Sanjaya is still on this show has pretty much rendered it a joke. For God’s sake, *I* can do better than that.

Lakisha is sounding bad too - which is really surprising.

  4. Brendan Loy Says:

Dammit, Chris Richardson, that wasn’t good enough to beat Sanjaya.

  5. Brendan Loy Says:

Also, while I have no doubt that his Virginia Tech comment was genuine, I think it will hurt him with the public. People are cynical bastards, and some of them will see that as an attempt to shore up votes by exploiting a tragedy to change the subject after a bad performance.

  6. Anon Says:

And now Blake is butchering a great Ryan Adams song. Why am I still watching this???

  7. marty west Says:

I am just starting to watch Idol now….I love my DVR

I will be the e-mail liaison Brendan….since I have no life…and by no life I mean I am “forced” into watching Idol every Tuesday and Wednesday.

  8. ScottF Says:

I don’t think the country format suited any of them and I’m gonna fall back to my feeling from last week and pick Phil. (Again with the caveat that I _want_ Sanjaya gone but can no longer vote for him and continue to be disappointed.)

And NDLauren beat me to volunteering, but I’d be happy to drop out of the running and lend a hand. I know I’m strategically placed for a comeback win but after the basketball pool I really should give someone else a chance. :-)

  9. Brendan Loy Says:

Marty, you can’t be the e-mail liaison, because you’re in the contest. Otherwise I could just handle the e-mails myself. :)

NDLauren, thanks… I’ll be in touch when the time comes. I think public voting will be OK for another few weeks… it’s only when the field gets really small that it becomes a major problem.

  10. Brendan Loy Says:

Okay, this is subject to change, but for the first — and hopefully last — time, I am going to predict that…

    SANJAYA

…will be voted off this week.

  11. Gardner Says:

I’m voting for Sanjaya and will until he is voted off

  12. marty west Says:

I believe Blake is going to win…but he would probably do better if he was voted off a la Chris Daughtry.

  13. Kate Spitz Says:

I choose Chris Richardson to go home.

  14. Toni Says:

    SANJAYA please dear god!

  15. David K. Says:

Chris Richardson. The train wreck that is Sanjaya will plague us another week.

  16. Vicki from NJ Says:

I’m voting Sanjaya…PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE let it be Sanjaya.

and *ahem* I believe some congrats are in order, as I am now in Last Place (I know it’s tied, but don’t worry, I’ll be last at the end, David and Scott don’t have a chance)

  17. Brendan Loy Says:

Vicki, I did actually mention your newfound last-place-ness last week… hehe. :)

  18. Vicki from NJ Says:

    cool! :)

  19. marty west Says:

Sanjaya is going home tonight. :(

    He had a nice run.

  20. Kevin Hauschulz Says:

sanjaya’s fairy tale ends tonight on American Idol.

  21. Derek Says:

    Chris Richardson

  22. Brendan Loy Says:

Becky says Chris Richardson is going home.

  23. Jay Johnson Says:

I’m finally saying the pony-hawked one himself is gone this week. OMG, he was actually pretty decent last week, but the one from last night was an absolute dog.

    Buh-bye Sanjaya.

  24. Jen Featherston Says:

Okay…so I think the bottom 3 should be Sanjaya, Chris and Lakisha. Since Sanjaya and his voting base are in a parallel universe, it will most likely be Chris, Lakisha and Phil. I was actually able to watch Phil’s performance last night without getting the heebie jeebies - and, he wasn’t even wearing a hat! Perhaps it was because there was actually a hint of life coming from him. Who knows? I think he might squeak out of the bottom 3 yet again. I would have picked Chris if it weren’t for that VT reference at the end of his “nasally” argument with Simon. Whether we are cynical or not, he’ll still get the Virginia sympathy vote. So, it’s Lakisha then. Her ego has far surpassed her better judgement at this point. Time for the diva to leave!
