The gunman in Monday’s Virginia Tech campus shootings has been identified as Cho Seung-Hui, 23, a student and native of South Korea, campus police chief Wendell Flinchum said.
Not to second guess the VT officials and police, but there was no murder weapon left at the site of the supposed “murder/suicide.” What the FUCK were they thinking by not extending a lockdown throughout the campus??? How the hell do you just assume a murder/suicide with no weapon in the room?
Word is the guy was using a Glock 9 with 17-round clips. The clips had been illegal under the Assault Weapons ban, which the Republicans allowed to lapse. I wonder if anyone will ask the POTUS about this during his trip to VT today.
Did they say that they thought is was a “murder/suicide” or that is was just one of many possibilities? If they though it was just a “crime of passion”, there wouldn’t necessarily be a weapon behind.
“He said investigators did not know there was a shooter loose on campus in the interval between the two shootings because the first could have been a murder-suicide.”
No it couldn’t have. The bodies were in a dorm room. If it had been a murder/suicide, there would have been a gun RIGHT THERE! Somebody had to blow his or her brains out. The gun would have been in close proximity to the bodies. Until they found the weapon, the authorities shouldn’t have assumed anything.
right, no word about a murder-suicide at all during early reports by the school. Gosh, to have creative lawyers at the ready . . . .
People are going to be falling on their swords soon anyway, might as well start being up front about mistakes. Or at least not making stuff up until you’re ready to tell the story.
Agreed. Right or wrong, I think the VT President and possibly the Police Chief won’t survive this. The truth is they didn’t have a good policy in place in the event of something like this happening. Hopefully that will change now. Not just at VT but at all colleges. Policy: Someone shot and killed on campus, lockdown campus until you are fairly confident you have an idea of what happened.
As for the Police Chief, you got a guy in po-dunk county VA trying to deal with multiple murders. They probably have one murder a year in that County.
It is dissappointing to see journalism coverage at its worst. I was watching fox news and could not believe the lame questions being asked–no substance whatsoever. Yesterday, the liberal media started blasting about gun control which is also sad when one considers such tragic events being used for political gain.
But I was also thinking that schools should have a loud speaker/siren system to alert students to stay away from campus when something like this takes place.
There certainly was a lapse at VT when one stops to think about the shootings time intervals.
Let the fingerpointing frenzy begin.
Gun control always comes up when this kind of thing happens. As does music, video games and TV.
The fact is this guy was fucking nuts. He was out of his mind. There are some things you can change along the edges, such as colleges adopting better safety procedures or restricting clip sizes for guns, but in the end nothing society does could have prevented something like this from happening. Like Timothy McVeigh, Harris and Klebold and the like, this guy was a sick fuck bent on killing people. End of story.
Is it really relevant that this guy was a native of South Korea? He was a permanent US resident. I’m not sure why that belongs in the breaking news alert.
The guy wasn’t an American citizen, so he is a South Korean. I think the distinction is being made because he is Asian and had been described as Chinese.
Now there’s a guy I have huge respect for. Indescribable respect. Could I even come close to doing what he did, I don’t know, can’t know, probably not (Marty, this is where you accuse me of talking like I’m a hero in waiting). Hero talk is bunk. This guy is awesome. yeah, a superman. If that is what a superman is then we know people can do it and we can aspire to it, even if most of us can’t do what they do when our time comes.
Oh, but some might say, this guy only barricaded a door, it’s not like he took on the shooter. Well maybe not (ignoring the fact that the shooter emptied rounds inches away from the guy and his buds as they held their ground), but this guy’s got that rare courage that we should all want. If shooter had got in the door, he would have got a table in the face. Now that’s a world I want to live in, and that’s the kind of people I want to suspect might be on a subway car with me, or a city street in the event of a bombing or shooting, people who have such a respect for life that they have the wit to shed theirs for others.
skeptics all, come and throw your qualifications. I got my story, so I’m happy. So tell me you’re not saying “I wish there were more Petkewicz’s there yesterday” - we’ll just have to agree to be different.

Any reports of what this “disturbing note” says?

Last night the VT President and Police Chief said they assumed it was a murder/suicide. I’m sure that story will be changing now.

From the Police Chief:
“He said investigators did not know there was a shooter loose on campus in the interval between the two shootings because the first could have been a murder-suicide.”

How did Cho come to have a weapon on campus at all? Didn’t he know that Va Tech is a gun-free zone?
April 17th, 2007 at 10:48:16 am
texasyank…
The entire city of washington D.C. is a “gun-free zone” and it has hundreds of gun related murders every year. People will get guns if they want them.

“How did Cho come to have a weapon on campus at all? Didn’t he know that Va Tech is a gun-free zone?”
So are most college campuses. I say let them all have guns. Nothing could be safer than Rush Week with firearms.

FAUXnews was also blaming hip-hop. Give me a fucking break.

The blame should be placed where it belongs - on the ex-girlfriend who pissed off this nut. Girls are trouble.

I blame Imus.

What did the note say!!
Also, there are no reports that this guy said anything during his rampage. He must have said something.
April 17th, 2007 at 11:36:16 am
Here’s the note…
“The old woman remembered a swan she had bought…many years ago in Shanghai
for a foolish sum.
“This bird,” boasted the market vendor…”was once a duck that
stretched its neck…in hopes
of becoming a goose.
And now look.
It is too beautiful to eat.”
…Oops. Sorry. That was from The Joy Luck Club.
April 17th, 2007 at 11:55:56 am
Can we blame Ricahrd Jewell for this?

I don’t think this gal had anything to do with this psycho. I think he was a stalker who went nuts when he saw her dating this guy.

If it was an American who killed a South Korean, they’d be burning US flags in Seoul already.

Maybe O’Reilly will finally lay off the illegals, as the culprit here was “legal” like 99% of the people committing violent crimes in this country.
