Heavenly light

While giving Shannon, PJ and Logan a tour of campus on Saturday, we visited the Basillica right after a Mass that had obviously featured a good deal of incense. The resulting smokiness in the air, combined with the evening sunlight shining through the stained-glass windows, produced a stunning visual effect inside the church:

lemme tell you something bloy and all you bloysian NDLSers. You look at these pictures now. Look at them and realize what you will not have after you graduate. 3Ls especially. Stop spending that extra umth hour a day studying. Get out and run or walk around that lake (even if it’s raining), go to the Backer once a week, laugh with your friends, sit once a month in the basilica if you’re not of the mass-going type, basically, breathe, breathe, breathe in Notre Dame as if you were going under water and had no certainty of when you might come up again. Because in less than a year, many of you are going to be sitting in the same place as this typist, looking out from a lofty 21st story window staring at granite and busy cars, and you are going to remember that sweet soft grass you didn’t rest on that afternoon on that beautiful day after class when you rushed back to FOG to make sure you read the assignment thoroughly or crashed in front of the tv. Don’t give yourself so little of that special place you’re at that you find it hard to remember exactly as time passes. shore up your treasure now.

    well, back to work !

I couldn’t agree more. Even though my office view has the additional benefit of a mountain and a blue sky. The more I travel to other places, the more I’m convinced that Notre Dame is a little Heaven on earth. Cherish the time any of you have left there, cherish the campus, the people, the classes, everything. While the practice of law isn’t horrible, its pails in comparison to life at ND!

It’s pictures like this that make me sometimes wish I went to law school under the Dome.
