Watching the UConn-Syracuse game on ESPN tonight, I found myself reminiscing about one of the most memorable moments of last basketball season, when Orange coach Jim Boeheim responded to accusations that Gerry McNamara is “overrated” by saying that his team “wouldn’t have won 10 f***ing games” without McNamara. I tried to find a clip of the infamous press conference on YouTube or Google Video, but all I found was this crappy one. So I did a bit more digging, found this video from Syracuse.com, figured out how to download it, uncovered a hidden uncensored version, cropped it down to the relevant part, and uploaded it to YouTube myself. The result: sweet, sweet f***ing memories. WARNING: Profanity!

Jim Boeheim embodies the virtue of loyalty. He stays is tundra of Syracuse and always shows love to the school and the city. He sticks with his players. Just in the past couple of years, he has fought hard against the NCAA for the ridiculous supsension of Billy Edelin and has stuck up for GMac in the press. His current project of teaching maturity and leadership to Devendorf (who could have been a huge problem case)and Paul Harris (whose has been a model citizen since coming to Syracuse) will be seen in the next year. With KMac coming back, we may have similar things to say about Brey.
I have to laugh a little bit when our own paper is calling him and our own student newspaper is called him ‘overrated,’ and they actually listened to a couple of assistant coaches who I guarantee you will never be head coaches if they think Gerry McNamara is overrated. Of course our paper won’t print that anyway because somebody said it. Without Gerry McNamara, we wouldn’t have won 10 fucking games this year. OK? Not 10. These other guys just aren’t ready. They needed him. Without him there, not 10. We wouldn’t be here to even have a chance to play this game. And everybody’s talking to me and writing to me about Gerry McNamara being overrated? That’s the most bullshit thing I’ve seen in 30 years, and especially because it comes from our people, in our papers. But they quote it from somebody else - an anonymous assistant coach. Let the assistant coach come up to me and say, ‘Gerry McNamara is overrated.’ I’d like to see one of those guys come up to me and say that. He’s been double-teamed in every game this year, and the coaches voted him first-team all-conference. The head coaches, they don’t know shit I guess.
