I already said I don’t approve of Jarrett’s showboating. But that doesn’t mean I can’t admire his talent and what he did for my team tonight. Jeff Samardzija did his share of showboating this season too, and while some Irish fans rightly criticized him for it (just as I criticize Jarrett), that doesn’t stop them from loving Samardzija (just as I love Jarrett). In other words, there’s nothing to say “oh come on” about; an acknowledgment of Jarrett’s showboating doesn’t contradict anything in this post. Yes, Jarrett needs to cool it. But he’s also AWESOME.
I agree, a flag should have been thrown there. I can only assume the refs…
WOOO!!! Touchdown Boise!!! Love, love, LOVE their QB, Zabransky or whatever. Sacrificing his body for the extra two yards and the first down, and then going freakin’ nuts after that touchdown. Awesome.
…ahem, as I was saying, I can only assume the refs didn’t get a good look at Jarrett’s little maneuver with the ball.
As for not playing Booty: apparently Carroll specifically said that all the positions will be open for tryouts, including QB. So Brent was just passing that on. Don’t forget, Sanchez (like Booty before him) was the #1 QB in his recruiting class… and while Booty was awesome tonight, he’s been inconsistent this season. So I think it makes perfect sense to at least make him think he has to work for the starting job.
P.S. How is Boise an “overwhelming underdog”? The oddsmakers have it at Oklahoma -7. That’s less than LSU over Notre Dame (-9), but somehow I don’t think we’ll hear the Irish described as an “overwhelming underdog.”
Speaking of bad commentators, about all that talk early in the game about how Jarrett’s “not NFL material.” After 4th and 9, I’m not likely to be cheering for him when he gets there, but he’s looked NFL ready all season long.
By the way, who doesn’t wish we could see USC take on Ohio State next week?
who doesn’t wish we could see USC take on Ohio State next week?
I certainly wish that. And if we had a “plus-one,” it might happen.
Well, no. If we had a “plus-one,” USC would have played Ohio State tonight, and Florida would be playing Michigan in the Sugar Bowl … with the winners likely playing in the title game, though if Boise State wins tonight, that would throw a monkey wrench into it.
who doesn’t wish we could see USC take on Ohio State next week?
I do.
What was kind of impressive though was the way all the USC players handled that question tonight. They all said “it would have been nice to play next week, but we didn’t earn it” or words to that effect.
its a odd that D.J. is being showered with so much attention. This was Booty’s game (espec. after the UCLA game). Look at the box score at take into account his distribution (Smith also had a monster game), and how he was decisive in either getting the ball out, or just throwing it away to avoid the sack and bad field position (excellent audibles and line checks as well against a phenominal DL). D.J. does not have that game without Booty preparing himself and delivering a masterpiece.
We have all seen receiver’s like this in the past at USC, D.J. is just benefitting from another solid QB. Hey, what was that other guys name? ….. oh yeah, Mike Williams.
True, anon, Booty deserves more credit for a masterful second half. It was the difficult, spectacular catches that won Jarrett the award and roughly half his yardage.
Every aspect of the team, with the exception of the running game, came together in a strong performance–particularly the defense, Booty & Jarrett. And the running game was just good enough to get some play-action calls to work…
All-in-all, the second best football game I watched yesterday.
Yeah, what’s up with USC’s run game? If Sarkisian and Kiffin learned they can’t run for the 2nd half of UCLA like they did Michigan, this game would’ve been for the national championship instead of another meaningless USC BCS bowl blow-out.

Oh come on. UNSPORTSMANLIKE.
Dwayne Jarrett is a showboat.
The zebras kept the flag in the pocket far too often during this contest.

I am not saying that he is not awesome but he was very T.O. like tonight.
How did they not throw a flag when he handed the ball back to that Mich safety I will never know.
And the fact that Brent would call the QB “controversy” into question astounds me. How could USC not play Booty next year?

Also….
Zabransky is a mean machine.

WAKE UP, Fox commentators! Boise is for real!
January 1st, 2007 at 10:37:35 pm
I think that the commentators covered the whole “up for grabs” QB thing pretty simply, it’s to help motivate Booty.
As for Boise State, not just the commentators but the rest of the country better wake up, Boise State is the real deal.

FOX sports bowl game coverage = horrible.
Zabransky was terrible in the bowl game last year but this yera he is a beast.
I thought ND locked the number 1 QB recruit. Am I wrong?
January 1st, 2007 at 10:43:43 pm
Ditto To Brendan What a game …so very very nice
January 1st, 2007 at 10:44:01 pm
Marty, ND got the #1 QB recruit of the Class of 2007, yes. Mark Sanchez was the #1 recruit of… um… the Class of 2005, I believe.
January 1st, 2007 at 10:44:24 pm
(And Booty was #1 in the Class of 2003.)
January 1st, 2007 at 10:47:20 pm
No fair. I loved him first.
January 1st, 2007 at 10:47:53 pm
Yah, Jarrett had a good game there. Hope he goes high in the draft pick. Not much to hold him for next year.

ND > LSU
There I said it.

HAHAHAHAHA That’s funny shit. Thanks for the laugh.
