Edwards way ahead in Iowa; Vilsack a dismal fourth
Posted by on Thursday, December 14, 2006 at 12:09 pm

Earlier this month, Daily Kos wrote that Barack Obama, if he runs, will be the “prohibitive favorite” to win the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008. But in the course of explaining why he thinks this is so, Kos made a lot of assumptions, including one regarding the Iowa Caucuses: “Vilsack will win it (getting no boost out of it).” That would be Tom Vilsack, the sitting governor of Iowa and an announced candidate for president. But, well, looky here, there’s a new Iowa poll out — and Vilsack isn’t exactly doing so well:

Edwards: 36%
Clinton: 16%
Obama: 13%
Vilsack: 9%
Kerry: 6%
Biden: 5%
[etc. etc.]

Single digits in his own state? I know it’s early, but that can’t be good for fundraising.

Meanwhile, my two “home state” candidates, Evan Bayh of Indiana and Chris Dodd of Connecticut, are both below single digits — they’re in the decimal points. D’oh!

  1. Marty West Says:

My girlfriend is from Iowa. When I told her that Vilsack was running she just laughed and said “If he gets 10% of the state that would be a victory for him.”

Looks like he is right on pace.

  2. B. Minich Says:

    Jon Stewart said the following.

“Tom Vilsak has declared for the Presidency. VIILL-SAAAK! VIILL-SAAK! As you can see, there is no way he will get elected.”

He brings up a good point - Vilsak is not an electable name.
