That’s my problem with the absolutist position against the death penalty, which is to say, the position of those against capital punishment in general: to be logically consistent you would have to be against the death penalty in all circumstances. For my part, there are too many instances (e.g., Saddam Hussein) where someone does things so awful (in Saddam’s case, crimes against humanity) that they deserve removal from the gene pool.

Interestingly, when asked whether they favored the death penalty for Saddam Hussein, a majority of respondents in Germany, France and Spain responded in the affirmative.
