It’s getting closer in Virginia, with 97% of the precincts reporting:
Allen (R) 1,111,028
Webb (D) 1,098,690
Parker (G) 24,621
That’s a 12,338-vote lead for Allen — almost exactly half of the Green candidate’s total. Just saying.

Well within recount territory . . .

Heh. More than 30% of the vote hasn’t been counted yet for Richmond. Richmond, the blackest city in Virginia.

Also there isn’t a full count for Loudoun County, which is about 50/50 Dems to Rep and Harrisonburg - a college town.

Still 11 percent for Charlottesville and 2 percent for Arlington. No way this election is over yet.

I think you’re right Max — all those areas where precincts are yet to report (per CNN) are either even or going big for Webb. If I had to guess right now, I’d say it will be Allen, and not Webb, requesting the recount.
Mehlman just said on CNN that WaPost has withdrawn its call in the MD Senate race.

Baltimore Sun has county by county for MD. Right now it is probably outside the ‘call’ levels, but the three biggest uncounted areas (Balmore, PG, and Mtgmry county are big D areas, by 3-1), so it is a temporary thing methinks.

Considering half of MD’s population resides in those three counties, it is pretty much a given Cardin will win. However, I don’t blame Steele for wanting to wait.

Now CNN is withdrawing its call? Or not? Nope, they’re sticking with it. For the very reason you cite.

I think the RNC is just rattling everyone’s cage over MD. They should save their energy for Virginia, because they are going to need it.
November 7th, 2006 at 11:52:06 pm
Yep — CNN just put Webb ahead.
