We haven’t heard any news from Shannon, so presumably that means Logan hasn’t been born yet. If so, then if all went as planned, the doctors made the initial preparations for an induced labor this afternoon, and will induce Shannon bright and early tomorrow morning — starting at 8:30 AM, if I remember correctly. Methinks poor Shan isn’t going to get much sleep tonight… after all, she’s having a baby tomorrow!! That’s just a wee bit exciting, nerve-wracking, terrifying, etc.
Anyway, this final delay gives me just enough time to ask the question: Will Logan Middle-Name-To-Be-Determined Wanecski be the 300,000,000th American? Reuters reports: “Some time this month, the number of Americans will surpass 300 million.” Hey, forget “some time this month,” how about “some time tomorrow”? :)
P.S. Yeah, so the Census Bureau “predicts the 300 million mark will be reached in mid-October.” So what? The Census Bureau has been wrong before! We just need a whole lot of babies to be born in the next 12 hours, so that Logan can claim the honor of being #300,000,000. C’mon, pregnant women of America, PUSH!!! ;)

You mean Brendan isn’t video-blogging the delivery ?
Has anyone seen him in the past few hours ?

FWIW - my own guess is going to be “in the next week or so …” … first baby, made it to full term, and is over by a week (almost) so far … it’s comparatively unusual to go over by more than two weeks, so …
In the next week or so …

I’m pretty darn sure the 300 millionth American will be born of illegal Mexican immigrants in some LA ER that’s weeks away from being permanently shut down due to budget problems.

Alasdair, you seem to be missing the first part of the post: “if all went as planned, the doctors made the initial preparations for an induced labor [yesterday] afternoon, and will induce Shannon bright and early [this] morning â€â€? starting at 8:30 AM, if I remember correctly.”

Brendan - voice of 1.5 hand experience … (not quite first hand, yet more than second hand) … the doctors can start inducing labour, and, when the baby and mother are both ready, the baby will emerge … the human system is *very* efficient, most of the time, at dealing with such things, and is eminently capable of deciding not to deliver a baby before its time …
If Shannon and baby are ready, the inducing will speed things up - and if they aren’t ready, the inducing *won’t* speed things up …
One form of inducing labour involves hormones to help “ripen” the cervix … and if the cervix isn’t ready, it doesn’t “ripen” …
Now, a C-section will definitely give a specific time to the delivery … but that’s different from “inducing” the baby …
I hope Shannon isn’t having to suffer too much in her labour … and that it won’t be TOO long … I still would not bet cash money on the baby arriving today, necessarily, by other than C-section …
(Disclaimer - I’m not an Ob/Gyn - just married to one, who, once she learned that in the last couple of weeks of a pregnancy, the baby is gaining about an ounce a day, realised that, when a baby is two weeks “overdue”, that baby is almost one pound bigger to get through that narrow opening … and our first daughter weighed 10 pounds … when #2 was at official due date, she and her own Ob/Gyn used the ‘cervix-ripening’ method to induce - and, several days later, #2 was born … since this is a G-rated blog, we won’t go into some of the other techniques used …)

May the result of the delivery be healthy mother and infant ! Whenever said infant decides it’s safe to emerge !

I’m glad to see that the induction *didn’t* drag out …
I wonder if Logan has *any* idea what he’s in for, being associated with *this* bunch ?
(grin)
