Finally, after four straight Trojan games that I was unable to watch, tonight’s USC-Oregon State game is on TV here in South Bend… but, just before kickoff, our cable went out. ARRRRGH!!!!! I’m on hold with the cable company right now, but needless to say, if this problem doesn’t fix itself in the next few minutes, we’re going somewhere where we can watch this thing… friend’s house, sports bar, whatever. Details are still being worked out. In the mean time, Oregon State has taken a 7-0 lead and just intercepted the ball in the end zone when USC looked poised to score. Yikes!
UPDATE: Crap crap crap.
Crappity crap crap crap.
Crap.
Oregon State 30, USC 10 with 7:55 left in the third quarter.
UPDATE 2: CRAP!!!!!
UPDATE 3: Okay, the Trojans are showing some life. It’s 33-17 at the end of the third quarter. Well, one of my teams has come back from a 16-point deficit in the fourth quarter this season… now it’s the other’s turn. Go Trojans!!! C’mon, Beavers, pull a Sparty!!!

He’s an Oregon State fan now, honest!
UPDATE 4: It’s a one-possession game! OSU 33, USC 25 with 12:02 left.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! A pox on you Comcast!
October 28th, 2006 at 4:24:41 pm
Um…the Irish actually need USC to win this game. There is no excuses for a loss to Oregon State.
October 28th, 2006 at 4:33:28 pm
And the Pac-10 officials fail again. After USC caught the ball, the reciever was pushed out of bounds by the Oregon State player (which shouldn’t be out of bounds) and so they called it an incomplete pass. Ridiculous.
October 28th, 2006 at 5:11:19 pm
What the crap is going on? May the armpit hair of every Comcast employee be infested with the fleas of a thousand camels!
October 28th, 2006 at 5:12:45 pm
16-7 now
October 28th, 2006 at 5:34:23 pm
16-10 at the half
Looks like our defense is finally making plays. If only the offense hadn’t given them THREE FREAKING TURNOVERS. ARG
October 28th, 2006 at 5:49:55 pm
23-10, OSU. Lookin’ ugly.
October 28th, 2006 at 5:53:21 pm
It’s so hard for me to not enjoy watching USC lose…
October 28th, 2006 at 5:57:58 pm
DAMNIT!!!!!!
October 28th, 2006 at 5:58:35 pm
WTF: 30-10, Oregon St.?!?!?!?!?!
October 28th, 2006 at 6:01:43 pm
well, this game is over
October 28th, 2006 at 6:03:10 pm
they took OSU too lightly is my guess, which you think given the recent games they wouldn’t have.
October 28th, 2006 at 6:04:41 pm
OS on the 7 now. 3rd and Goal. Not looking good at all.
Streaks on the line:
27 straight PAC-10 wins
18 straight road wins
Agh! OS tripped on the 2. 4th and 2
October 28th, 2006 at 6:04:41 pm
Learn the rule before you criticize David. In college they don’t have the rules about pushing the guy out of bounds. That’s an NFL rule only.
October 28th, 2006 at 6:05:35 pm
Um, and USC has been showing flaws all year long. Don’t start with this crap about how they didn’t have their heads in the game. Don’t start covering up for the fact that this team has major problems that are being exposed (and have been exposed in other close wins).
October 28th, 2006 at 6:07:34 pm
whatever Beaver, they are playing their worst game of the season. Problems yes, this many turnovers? No. Oregon State is playing a very good game, but its not like they are getting the best effort from USC. Is USC vulnerable this season? Yes. Should they be playing this bad? NO.
October 28th, 2006 at 6:09:51 pm
But David, it’s 33-10. They could be playing considerably less bad, and they’d still be losing. I’m with Beaver: this loss (if it ends up being a loss) is no fluke. USC has looked vulnerable for the last month. I thought that the Pete Carroll Late-Season MagicTM would save them, and more specifically, that the bye week would give them time to get healthy, get their acts together and start clicking on offense. Clearly, that’s not the case. If they lose today, I’ll make no excuses for them.
October 28th, 2006 at 6:10:23 pm
I agree with you David. They’re playing their worst game of the season. That doesn’t mean that they don’t have massive flaws that have been, and are currently being, exploited. Getting into this crap about how their just “not giving their best effort” is you setting up excuses for after the impending loss.
October 28th, 2006 at 6:14:42 pm
Brendan, if you are going to tell me that USC would be in the position they are in without those turnovers, un-forced turnovers mind you, then you need to watch more football.
October 28th, 2006 at 6:15:00 pm
Honestly, USC wasn’t at their “best” against WSU, UW, ASU and now OSU. Doesn’t it seem that they were just playing better than their best in those other games. How are they playing substantially worse than they usually play?
October 28th, 2006 at 6:26:32 pm
If all of the turnovers hadn’t happened, then of course they wouldn’t be in the same position.
If some of the turnovers hadn’t happened, then they wouldn’t be behind by 16 points… but they might still be behind.
I stand by what I said.
October 28th, 2006 at 6:40:30 pm
Beaver, the long return for a touchdown allowed would be my first indication, the fumbles would be my second. If not for those fumbles this game wouldn’t be this bad. In all there other games, they were bhiend, but not by as much as they are now. I stand by my assertion that so far this is the poorest they have played all season. It might not be dramatically worse, but it is still worse
October 28th, 2006 at 6:43:28 pm
And i stand by what i said, it looks like they are playing there worst game of the season, and GOSH your right they could still be losing without those turnovers, but again, if they hadn’t i don’t see based on what else has happened in this game that they woudl be losing so much that its almost out of reach. I’m not making excuses, OSU is playing great, USC is playing poorly, thats what happens, but i’m not going to sit here and spend my time critquing OSU, because well i don’t muhc care beyond this game about OSU. i DO care about USC and thats why my comments focus on USC failures this game. This loss may be something thats not too surprising, but honestly, other than their game against Washington, OSU hasn’t looked like a solid team all season. Kudos to them for playing so well this game, but it still comes back to the fumbles.
October 28th, 2006 at 6:51:35 pm
David, you’re right. This is the worst they’ve played. Period. No question. The argument you’re making is that, if not for their mistakes, they would be playing better. Okay. What’s the point in saying that? You’re trying to set up an excuse for the loss by claiming that this game is some kind of anomaly because they took OSU lightly. Which is BS. I’m saying that this is just an example of a team taking advantage of the flaws in USC. They aren’t that great of a team this year, and they sure as hell aren’t the #2 or #3 team in the country.
October 28th, 2006 at 6:55:04 pm
And it doesn’t just come down to the fumbles, David. It also comes down to important defensive stops and the ability of their offense to move down the field with stunning frequency. Quit prepping your post-loss blog entry about how they gave this away with their fumbles. That ain’t the case. Fumbles were bad, but you’re not giving the OSU defense for causing most of those turnovers (with the exception of the one that just appeared to squirt out).
October 28th, 2006 at 7:01:47 pm
He was out of bounds.
October 28th, 2006 at 7:08:26 pm
Hey David, start writing the excuses. Tell me why this was just a product of USC overlooking OSU. I mean, they have Stanford next week, so you can certainly understand why they were looking ahead.
October 28th, 2006 at 7:09:26 pm
Speaking of schadenfreude . . . :)
October 28th, 2006 at 7:10:10 pm
And they lose the game with a crap pass for the 2 point conversion. Booty was clutch on that drive, but they had little chance since the run had 0 credibility for that conversion, and defending against a guaranteed pass for the conversion is fairly easy, as there isn’t that much room in the enzone for 15 people!
October 28th, 2006 at 7:11:23 pm
I agree completely that they aren’t the #2-3 team in the country, but if not for those un-forced turnovers, something terribly out of character for this team, and based on the way the game finished, i think that USC would have won.
But i make no excuses, i only say those things as analysis of the game. Oregon State earned their win today, they should be proud of the way they played because regardless of USC mistakes, it was an amazing preformance by OSU. The worst part, for me, is thta it hurts UW’s bowl chances. We need to finish 6th or better in the Pac-10 and OSU winning makes that harder. USC winning wouldn’t have really affected us.
October 28th, 2006 at 7:12:42 pm
Wow beaver, way to be a classless, sore loser. Go enjoy your win, i should have known not to expect any better from an Oregonian.
October 28th, 2006 at 7:13:17 pm
loser == winner
October 28th, 2006 at 7:13:42 pm
Yes! USC goes down! And against Oregon St? LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL Isn’t that incredibly ironic? Then again, USC has played like crap all year and especially in the last few weeks. Seves them right.
October 28th, 2006 at 7:15:37 pm
I’m not from Oregon, I just picked this name because the Beavers were playing. I’m can’t be a “sore loser” because Oregon, the team I was rooting for, won. You, however, are acting as a sore loser. Making a dig about all people from Oregon because your team lost. You’re the one being classless right now.
October 28th, 2006 at 7:15:38 pm
USC should drop out of the top 10.
October 28th, 2006 at 7:18:12 pm
“Go enjoy your win, i should have known not to expect any better from an Oregonian.”
Just what is that supposed to mean?
October 28th, 2006 at 7:19:36 pm
It means that they are just bitter sore losers that are finally showing their true colors much like they did when Texas beat that arse!
October 28th, 2006 at 7:20:08 pm
David was trying to show how I was classless by insulting a whole state full of people (and in the process, not even insult me). This is just another in a long list of unintelligent comments from David.
October 28th, 2006 at 8:01:04 pm
oh noes, i was insulted in a blog comment, whatever am i going to do
October 28th, 2006 at 11:06:29 pm
So David,
Considering your rant about how ND is soooo overrated, where do you think USC should tumble to. Their only loss coming against an unranked team.
October 28th, 2006 at 11:17:50 pm
David, do you still think Ty is a “world class” coach?
October 28th, 2006 at 11:29:04 pm
This is just another in a long list of unintelligent comments from David.
Seconded.
