Welcome to my blog!

Once again: Welcome, HBO viewers! Viewers of tonight’s Spike Lee documentary who aren’t familiar with my blog — and thus don’t understand why the heck I, of all people, was in the movie — may want to read this post for a bit of background information.

P.S. To read my reactions to the movie, check out these posts:

Wow. If I had known you were so famous I would have totally sucked up to you during the Sabres playoff run.

Seriously though, I didn’t know any of the backstory there. That’s really cool. Except for the fact it’s Spike Lee since he’s such a tool.

    Heh.

Man, I watched the whole documentary tonight but I had no clue tonight was the debut. A year ago today, to be watching what was going on, is awfully sad.

And with the five year 9/11 anniversary coming up, I have no idea how I’ll keep it together.

The right question I took from the movie was ‘Where is my government?”. I hope we can bring it back this fall and in 08.

I believe most of the commentary that seemed slanted (such as the bomb conspiracy theories and the Kanye West supporters) were positioned to show the effect of Katrina’s handling on peoples’ relationship with their government.

All in all, for once I’m glad I spent 4 hours in front of my television—in homage to Katrina. As we still are here in New York, rebuilding seems harder than surviving sometimes. But man, it’s time they clean up that town.

    (And stop global warming.)

Actually, the debut was last week, but this was the first time they aired both parts at once, instead of in two parts over two nights.

I’m with you on the double-whammy tragedy-anniversary thing. Actually, it’s a triple-whammy for me, as a good friend of mine died on September 16 of last year. So, in the next three weeks, I’ll be commemorating and memorializing, both internally and publicly on this blog, the Katrina anniversary, the 9/11 anniversary and the anniversary of Sarah’s death. Cripes. Good thing Becky’s and my dear friend Shannon will be having a baby, most likely in September, thus injecting the joy of new life amid all these sad thoughts of death.

I’m sorry to hear about your friend…

Well…It’s nice to have some company at 2:40 in the morning. Spike Lee’s documentary has brought me here, right to the stranger I just saw on the glowing box in my basement.

You know, while I was DVR’ing HBO, I flipped to the History Channel and checked out their special on “Megadistasters” (just by chance). They had a whole thing about how NYC needs to gear up for the possibility of a hurricane. Looking at the latest track map of Ernesto, the History Channel couldn’t have picked a better time to air this show. What I didn’t know is that some weather theorists believe that New York city’s weather will soon be similar to North Carolina’s due to the effects of global warming.

After I finished watching their computer simulation on “what would happen if”, I went back to HBO and watched with a new sense of fear in my eyes.

    Now where can I buy a boat…

Thanks… you can see more about my friend here.

As for the New York Nightmare Scenario… that is indeed a very bad one… I’ve blogged about it various times, including here, here, here, here, here, and most recently, here.

Anyway… I should really get back to my law reading and then go to bed… :)

P.S. “Spike Lee’s documentary has brought me here, right to the stranger I just saw on the glowing box in my basement.” I like the way you put that. Very cool. :)

Wow, small world. After I had read about Katrina and spike Lees docu, when I started reading about You, I had no idea you were from Newington. I grew up in West Haven, moved to Wallingford, and am now in Weatogue. Now id like to move to another “W” place in New York. I cant stand the taxes and the amount of people. There are some places near Fort Plain NY that you can buy 10 acres of land and a house for under 30 grand. Taxes are half they are here, and I believe that most people are more friendly then most Connecticut people.

    Ever been to Lake Compounce????????

    Laters/Mike ps good luck
