A small consolation

Joe Lieberman didn’t win my home state, but at least he won my hometown. According to the Hartford Courant, Joe got 1,996 votes (52.51%) in Newington, 191 more than Ned Lamont’s 1,805 (47.49%). Woohoo! :)

Looking forward to seeing a color-coded map of Connecticut with the primary results, a la the red/blue presidential election maps we’re so familiar with. Looks like the hometowns of several Nutmegs whose opinions I respect (Southington, Ansonia, and, yes, Newington) gave Joe his “Mentum.”

Welcome to the ranks of “Independent.” When I became one, it was because there were a couple of handfuls of politicians in each party that I wanted to support, and hundreds more that I didn’t. Through the last few years of ascendancy of pork-loving Republicans, it’s seemed like the number of Republicans in that group were shrinking.

And now it feels like a dwindling handful of Democrats as well.

Will Joe Lieberman be the Major Bovay of our time? John McCain? Or will the parties wake up to the disaffection they’re creating?
