FAA acknowledges it violated staffing policies with only one air traffic controller on duty at airport when Comair jet crashed Sunday, killing 49 people. Visit CNN for the latest.
The taxi ways where altered last week and FAA rules require more than 1 controller in that tower, and i would expect more than one anyways using common sense approach, hey you dont fly with only 1 pilot now do you?
This will cost the Gov a Fortune in law suits im sure….
Government a fortune in lawsuits? Doubtful. When was the last time you heard of someone winning a lawsuit against the Federal Government?
Unfortunately, with all of the problems that led up to the accident, I believe the final report will identify pilot error. Regardless of the number of people in the tower or how things had been changed around, no pilot of a commercial jet should have taken the plane down an unlit runway like that. From what I have heard, the pilots apparently had no idea they were on a short runway, hitting the grassy hill at the end of the strip at nearly full speed.
Expect Comair to be sued into oblivion.

I thought this was more of a problem with the GROUND controllers than AIR traffic controllers. Didn’t the plane take the wron runway?
