South Park Scientology episode to re-air next week

South Park‘s Tom Cruise-bashing, Scientology-lampooning episode, “Trapped in the Closet,” has been nominated for an Emmy — and it will air again next Wednesday. It sounds like Matt & Trey really put their feet down this time, and demanded that the Comedy Central manatees executives do the right thing:

The show’s co-creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, were told in May that the episode was pulled from the schedule to appease Cruise and his partners in Mission: Impossible III, according to reports.

“If they hadn’t put this episode back on the air, we’d have had serious issues, and we wouldn’t be doing anything else with them,” Stone said in today’s edition of the trade paper Variety.

Hooray! (Hat tip: Diane Huffman.)

  1. Finally I get to see this “great” episode.

I caught most of the episode when it ran the first time, and I’m very much looking forward to seeing it again – I might even tape it. I wonder if it was just Parker and Stone being “persuasive,” or if there’s a realization that maybe Mr Cruise doesn’t have the pull that he theoretically had before Mission: Impossible – 3 (I think I got the punctuation right) came in well short of expectations (I don’t think it’s even made back its production cost yet).

I’m really happy that the Comedy Central execs grew a pair and decided to re-air this episode. Scientologists really come across like a bizarre combination of whacked out bullies and Jewish princesses when they make unreasonable demands of others and then throw weighty tantrums when they don’t get their way. I would love to see Cruise try to sue Comedy Central and lose. He’s such a weirdo.

Tom Cruise is the weirdest thing to happen to Scientology since… the last thing.

Mr. Cruise has enough pull to get his friends Trey and Matt an Emmy nomination! Do you really believe this wasn’t planned?
