    How do you say, “Hurricane Nerd” in Danish?

  3. Angrier and Angrier Says:

    This is how it comes out in German using translation software…

    Hurrikandummkopf

    …Somehow Hurricane Dumb Head doesn’t have quite the same ring.

    Do you spend the day googling your name??

    LOL :). To be fair, “Dummkopf” really refers to someone who is unintelligent, which wouldn’t seem to be applicable here. I don’t know much about German slang, but www.dict.cc gives a number of other possibilities for “nerd”. The ones that seem to suit this particular usage especially well are “Streber” (literally, “striver”) and “Freak”. The first term seems to me to connote someone who is so eager for knowledge in a particular area that he/she is amusing in their earnest pursuit of it. The second seems much like the first, with perhaps an added element of mental instability… :)

    Heh. No, but I do look at my website traffic statistics fairly frequently, and they tell me where my hits are coming from, so I generally know if any website with a halfway-decent amount of traffic links to me.

    Yes, but you will never be the most popular tall, skinny, redhead in Finland!

    “? Hvis jeg var i New Orleans, ville jeg seriøst overveje at komme ud af byen i en fart, skrev Brendan Loy ifølge New York Times.” {my bold}

    Are you just going to sit there when the Danes called you that, Brendan ?

    (innocent smile)
