Chris Dodd for President?
Posted by on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at 12:33 am

Could the senior senator from Connecticut be the Democrats’ much-needed anti-Hillary? I doubt it (who has ever heard of Chris Dodd, except for party insiders, political junkies and Connecticut residents?), but he’s thinking about running in 2008.

  1. Jazz Says:

Maybe Al Gore will be President in 2008. In the short span of 16 years, America would have progressed from:

*down and out political candidate resuscitating career on hip edgy talk show (Clinton’s sax playing on Arsenio)

    to

*down and out political candidate resuscitating career as hip edgy docudrama star in Sundance-cred indie film.

Wait a second. Maybe we haven’t made that much progress after all.

  2. Jazz Says:

Details! Al Gore would be president in 2009 of course. Unless Cheney goes down in an Agnew-like death spiral, inexplicably is replaced by Gore as VP, and then Bush follows Cheney…

…as Gerald Ford might say - could happen.

  3. Keri Says:

I’ve heard of Chris Dodd, but only because I spend too much time reading your blog =0)

  4. Josh Rubin Says:

Dodd being elected president is only slightly more likely than me taking over Joseph Ratzinger’s current position.

  5. Angrier and Angrier Says:

A Liberal Senator from New England. That oughta work.

  6. David K. Says:

Hmmm I don’t know about that Josh, for Dodd there is certainly a non-zero possibility that he could be elected president. Unless you are a Catholic male, then you have a zero percent chance of becoming Pope.

  7. Brendan Loy Says:

Josh said “only slightly more likely.” Therefore, although it is true that “for Dodd there is certainly a non-zero possibility that he could be elected president,” if the possibility is, say, 0.5% (seems about right, if not a bit high), I think that could accurately be described as “only slightly more likely” than 0.0%. :)

  8. NEBRASKA94/95&97 Says:

Did Chris get Bill Clinton’s permission to think these thoughts?

  9. texasyank Says:

Chris Dodd. Right. If Hillary, Mark Warner, Joe Biden, John Kerry, and Al Gore are all in a place that crashes . . . . . on John Edwards.

  12. Joe Loy Says:

You people are all Nuts to say this could never happen.

    Quite obviously, Josh can Convert.

    :}

[Hi, Yer Eminence Cardinal Rubin. :> Btw, imho you’d be Good at the job, too :) But of course now I’ve gone & Reminded meself of how my Mom’s best friend, herself a congregant at the West Hartford house of worship cited, claimed that when Abe Ribicoff was narrowly elected CT Governor in 1954, a puff of white smoke went up over Temple Beth Israel. :]

    Nonono, NEBRASKA94/95&97. Chris’s mentor & hero isn’t Bubba. / It’s Teddy. :) To wit ~

[Candidate Dodd will face] likely barbs about his days in the 1980s, when he was divorced and known as a ladies’ man…

[i.e.]…his 1980s image as one of the tabloids’ favorite senators. Though he has not had to endure such publicity for at least 20 years, a candidate’s entire life is fair game in a presidential campaign.

But No, our Senior Senator is all Settled down now. / To further Stretch the privilege of excerptional Ellipses :) ~

    Dodd, who turns 62 Saturday…

…explained that after weeks of talking with key advisers he decided to proceed last month during dinner with his wife…Jackie Dodd, a savvy Washington player who was an executive at the Export-Import Bank and is now an international business consultant, told her husband he should lay the groundwork to run.

The Dodds have two young daughters, Grace, 4½, and 14-month-old Christina.

    So you see, Chris today is a solid Family Man. And after much soul-searching he’s discovered that Yes, in his Mature years he does have that Fire in the, uh, Belly. ;> Y’know, that he really Wants it. / The White House. / Shaddup. :}

Listen, all you pouncing punks, Dodd can Do it. Never count a bombastic New England Irishman out. GO CHRIS! :)

  14. David K. Says:

Holy cow, a 4 1/2 year old and a 14 month old? And he is 62? How old is his wife? And those poor kids, by the time they are in high school “Dad” will be older than many of their friends Granddads.

  15. Jazz Says:

Never count a bombastic New England Irishman out

If there is one thing you learn from several months’ lurking in these hallowed halls, that would probably be it :).

  16. Alasdair Says:

Apparently Dodd but not doddering … yet …

  17. NEBRASKA94/95&97 Says:

    14 month old!

there should be a law against such transgressions….oh wait a minute I might give this a shot in 29 years!

I hope Mrs. Dodd is a nice young thing.

    LOL

  18. Josh Rubin Says:

Thanks for the help there Brendan …

    and LOL TexasYank.
