Sabres slaughtering Flyers
Posted by on Monday, April 24, 2006 at 7:47 pm

Listening to Game 2 of the Sabres-Flyers series (I’m emotionally invested now, after watching that amazing Game 1 in Buffalo) on WGR 550 over the Internet, and so far, it’s a slaughter: 4-0 Sabres, less than 10 minutes into the game! Woohoo!

You wonder if this is one of those situations, like the ALCS last year, where a really close game early in the series causes such a huge momentum swing that the winning team ends up running away with the series. Buffalo fans can hope so, anyway. (Knock on wood!)

On a related note, this audio clip is funny.

UPDATE: Buffalo scores again! 5-0 at the end of the first period. Heh.

UPDATE 2: Our resident Buffalonians will no doubt appreciate this audio clip of Rick Jeanneret’s goal calls from the first period:

Incidentally, it’s 6-1 now.

P.S. You can download a video of the final play of Game 1, with Jeanneret’s radio call, here. (Hat tip: In da Buff, via BFLOBLOG.) And you can view the memorable Campbell-Umberger hit here.

FINAL UPDATE: Sabres win, 8-2, to take a 2-0 series lead. The AP article begins:

The rest of the Philadelphia Flyers know exactly how rookie R.J. Umberger felt after they, too, where flattened by the Buffalo Sabres.

Heh. Game 3 is Wednesday night in Philadelphia.

Their backs were broken by that 2OT loss on Saturday. Hard to come back after that.

Still, they didn’t have to lose all class and composure and start taking tons of cheap shots. Especially that one SOB who kicked Mike Grier in the chest WITH HIS SKATE while Grier was on the bench. That was ridiculous.

In conclusion, the Eagles suck. Bring on Otwah!!!!

  2. Mike's brother Matt Says:

They’re the Flyers…if they played with class, no one would believe they were the actual Flyers.

  3. Casey Says:

Matt — I agree, the Eagles suck!

  4. Brendan Loy Says:

Clearly, Philly’s classiness starts at the top: see here.

Watching the Sabres beat up on the Flyers is something only a long time Sabres fan can appreciate. If you are old enough to remember the 1975 finals (I was lucky enough to have attended one game) you’ll remember that the Flyers were a vile, nasty, hurtful bunch of classless thugs. Any time the Sabres beat the Flyers is a great time.

    Go Sabres.

I go back to when Ted Darling was the radio guy. Jeanneret came along after Darling moved to the TV broadcasts.

    RIP Ted Darling

Philly totally embarassed themselves yesterday. I mean, they got spanked in the first period and then they lost all composure and started taking cheap shots at everyone, including the pope’s dead mum. What’s that all about? The hit on Vanek from behind? Totally unacceptable. One of the radio commentators was pontificating on what he would have said as Philly’s coach going in to the locker room after that disastrous first period and he theorized that the coach would tell his team to try to win the rest of the game, to win the next two periods of play so that they could go to Philly with some momentum. Now, they’re going to Philly looking like a bunch of pussies who tried and ultimately failed to intimidate a smaller, faster Buffalo squad. Jeanneret was flat out calling Philly’s bully strategy stupid and he’s right. They make themselves look bad and while doing so, they let Buffalo give the home crowd a rather satisfying evening. I mean, two hatricks? Hot shit!

Thanks for the linky-love…it’s great seeing so many new-to-me blogs talking Sabres

  10. V Says:

It was awesome when Pominville got his hat trick b/c one of the commentators mentioned he was amazed there were any hats left after Dumont’s hat trick. As for the Flyers, what a classless bunch of jerks. That Vanek hit was totally uncalled for. But as Lindy said “the more they acted like idiots, the more we wanted to play.”
    Go Sabres!

  11. Andrew Long Says:

Wait, Philly peeps and Philly fans are assholes? What a new concept!!!
