The Sabres lost Game 4 last night, so the series is tied 2-2 heading back to Buffalo. So far, the home team has won all four games (contrast that to the WhalersHurricanes-Canadiens series, in which the home team has lost all four games). If the home-ice advantage persists, that whould be good news for the Sabres (knock on wood), since they have Game 5 and potentially Game 7 at home. The bad news? They looked like crap in Game 4. Hopefully they can pull it together before Sunday’s game, which will be on NBC at 2:00 PM.
P.S. In the spirit of the “L.A. Angels of Anaheim,” is it OK if I refer to the Carolina Hurricanes as the “Hartford Whalers of Raleigh”? :) Speaking of which… I’ve done some memory-lane stuff for our resident Sabres fans… well, here’s something for my fellow Connecticutians who remember the good old days:
Not that I ever went to a Whalers game or anything, but whatever. I was sufficiently aware of their existence that I remember the song… :)

Hartford may yet get a team back. Why?
Lets just say the Pittsburgh Penguins of Hartford is a possibility. I’d hate for my team to leave, but I have a feeling it could happen.

Hartford deserves to have an NHL team again. Their attendance was great even when the team was terrible. How many teams draw an average of 13,000 when they’re nowhere near the playoffs? I hope it happens, and soon. I know that the Penguins are rumored to leave Pittsburgh, but Kansas City seems like the most likely choice, followed by Houston. Maybe the Florida Panthers are in trouble too? If they can’t even support a baseball team in Miami, there’s no way that a hockey team should be there. So maybe the Panthers should buy a one-way ticket to Hartford, and they’ll have fans who will appreciate them.

Considering Hartford has a whole legion of die-hard Wolf Pack fans (they’re a minor league team), yeah, I think they’d definitely support an NHL team.

(By the way, I have read media stories about the Pens moving to Hartford. Say it ain’t so, Jack!)

this song brings a tear to my eye… our band started playing it during my senior year of college. when ever i’m playing a basketball game i NEVER hear the crowd, band or over head music (sometimes not even the coach!) but i think the first time the band played this song during a timeout i almost forgot where i was. there is no doubt i went back out on the court and had no clue what play i was supposed to run. all i could think about was omg, they just played the whalers song.

LET’S GO WHALERS, LET’S GO! (clap clap)
Still an appropriate cheer to break into at any event (sporting or non) at any time.
