Gonzaga and Washington are trading baskets in a very tight game down the stretch. Right now, it’s 86-85 UW with 5:18 to go. And Adam Morrison ROCKS!

UPDATE: Huskies win, 99-95. Harumph! Oh, well. Great game by both teams. I’m impressed that Gonzaga was able to play so well even with so many players in foul trouble and Derek Raivio, the second-best player on the team, out with an injury. (Although, admittedly, the 1-for-15 shooting from three-point range left a little something to be desired. And yet they still almost won!)

Alas, the Zags kind of screwed it up at the end. Morrison would have set a new career high with 44 points if he’d been able to hit a free throw that would have cut the lead to one with 0:55 left, but he missed — a rarity for him. Then, after a miss by the Huskies, Morrison missed a three-point shot with 0:13 left and Sean Mallon missed a would-be game-tying layup with 0:08 to go. The Huskies got the rebound, were fouled, and hit both free throws with 5.3 seconds left to put the game out of reach. Morrison’s earlier missed free throw made the difference, as it turns out, between the Zags having a final chance to try and tie the game, and not.

Anyway, congrats to Washington (7-0), which ends a seven-game losing streak to Gonzaga and extends its home winning streak to 29. Gonzaga falls to 4-2, with two extremely close, down-to-the-wire losses to two sets of Huskies, from UConn and U-Dub.

These Zags will be heard from in March!
