My bet with Tran

With USC playng UCLA this afternoon — in a game that would be essentally a national semifinal, if not for the Bruins’ inexplicable collapse against Arizona last month — it’s only natural that I have a bet on the game with UCLA grad Mike Tran, who is one of my best friends in the NDLS 2L class despite the fact he’s a f***in’ Bruin. :)

The terms are: if UCLA wins the game, I have to add a powder-blue-and-gold motif to my blog for a week, and post a picture of myself wearing some sort of Bruin gear (supplied by Mike), which will stay on the homepage for a week. If USC wins, I get to post a picture of Mike wearing some of my Trojan gear on the homepage for a day.

Why only a day, when my losing end of the bet punishes me for a week? That’s our way of grappling with the point spread, which favors the Trojans by 21. Since a USC win is so much more probable than a UCLA win, Mike wasn’t going to agree to the bet if it would subject him to a week’s worth of ridicule in the likely event of a loss. He wanted to bet on the point spread, but I felt it would be absurd for me to redesign the site in Bruin blue and post pictures of myself wearing UCLA gear in the wake of, say, a 20-point USC win. I mean, really, who cares about the spread… if the Trojans win by a point, we’ll still be 7-0 against UCLA since my freshman year, and we’ll still be going to the Rose Bowl! I’ll be celebrating a great victory, not mourning a defeat! So, as a compromise, we agreed on the week vs. day idea. It might not seem fair, but whatever, it’s totally worth it for me, just so I can post that picture of Mike Tran the Trojan. Hehe.

Anyway… as I believe I may have said once or twice already… BEAT THE BRUINS!!!

So this is a win-win situation for you. If UCLA wins, you get the privilege and honor of wearing UCLA clothing.

You USC fans will always have something Bruin fans won’t….A UCLA rejection letter. HA.

I’m still doing the victory sign in the picture, even if I have to wear the Bruin stuff. :)

Not like that’s going to happen anyway…

Actually I’m fairly certain that most of us who went to USC, especially from out of state weren’t even interested in attending fUcla :-)

I don’t know what you’re talking about, everyone wants to be a Bruin. UCLA is an awesome school… FOR ME TO POOP ON!

“inexplicable collapse”? That implies they held a lead. In fact, they sucked from the opening minute.
