Cheerleader voting update
Posted by on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at 5:03 pm

Following up on my previous post… it’s squeaky-close (though not quite Florida-close or King County-close) in the cheerleader voting between the not-all-that-attractive Kelly Dupree of Kentucky and the totally-way-cute Lara Benninger of West Virginia. At this hour, Kelly inexplicably leads, 39,173 to 38,507. (Even more inexplicable is the poor showing of hottest-girl-in-the-finals Megan Martz of Indiana, who has just 6,157 votes. I suspect anti-Hoosier bias!)

Anyway… Save America! Vote for Lara!

P.S. Back in Round 2, WVU’s Lara just barely defeated IU’s Megan in a result that was Florida-close: 90,797 to 90,764. (That’s a .018% margin!) So what happened? Where did all of Megan’s fans go?

Kelly looks like someone’s mother. Must be Joe Mama’s choice.

    I love democracy…

    You sexist pigs!

  4. Andrew Leyden Says:

The ASU girl looks like she has a nasty streak. Maybe it is because her hair keeps changing color, or maybe there is a movie out there….:-)

  5. Andrew Says:

I went with Lara. She looks yummy.

Good god! Kelly is leading? She’s not ugly, but I agree with Brendan in that she is not exactly a looker. And yes, Lara is a cutie.

You folks simply don’t understand the power of a major regional media broadcast supporting your “candidacy.”

You see, down here in the South, there is a very popular morning drive radio program (also broadcast live on cable via TurnerSouth-alas, also something I’m sure many of you do not get to enjoy) called the Rick & Bubba Show.

You see, the radio show has a series of college interns working with them throughout the year, and Kelly is a former (and recent)intern for the show.

The show is based out of Birmingham, Alabama, and Kelly is actually from that area.

All of the interns get amusing nicknames, based on either their name, appearance, hobbies, or for various other reasons.

As there was an old high school cheerleading cheer involving the phrase “Rock Steady,” that’s the nickname she got.

So, Rock Steady a/k/a Kelly Dupree is getting tons of support from the loyal Rick & Bubba audience.

BTW, she also was involved in a radio reality series they ran on Rick & Bubba, based on the Bachelorette series. Appropriately enough, it was called RockSteady-ette.

She ultimately picked a big lineman that plays for Auburn as her chosen suitor.

All in all, it’s a lot of fun, and the young lady’s personality (as evidenced on the show) seems great.

Plus, even though she goes to UK, I’m still a die-hard SEC man, when it all comes down to brass tacks.

    Personality? What’s that? :)

Thanks for the info, DrawingDead. I actually did figure that the relatively-lovely-but-nothing-to-write-home-about Miss Dupree’s success was probably due to a rabid fan base of some sort. I was thinking UK message boards, though. I should have known it was the evil empire of… *dun dun dun* TALK RADIO!!! :)

In other news, now it is Florida close! As of 12:23 AM, Kelly leads Lara by EIGHT VOTES — 41,638 to 41,630!
