There is a new version of Firefox out today. It has various new features. More here, here, here and here.
UPDATE: Oddly enough, when I click the “Download Firefox” link on this page, I get a screen full of garbled characters, like Safari is trying to interpret the .dmg file as a text file, for some reason. An anti-Firefox conspiracy by Apple, perhaps? :) Anyone else having this problem with Safari?

Yes, same thing happened to me. Safari gave me garbled text. I also have AOL which uses Netscape, I think, as its browser. So I used the AOL bowser to download. I just retried the Firefox download again on Safari and the garbled text appeared again. I’m no computer geek but I know some files can show up as text even though they are meant for other media. Some audio files, for example, require a translating program, and if you don’t have it they appear as text when you open them.

Forgot to mention that I think when I first got my Mac Mini I used Safari to download Firefox. Not sure why it should be any different this time….

The garbled text is back. I took a screenshot and added a link to it, and I removed “UPDATE 2,” which previously stated:
Aha, now it’s working! Either my browser recovered from its little hiccup, or else Mozilla fixed something on their end. Damn, now I wish I’d gotten a screenshot!

if you get that garbled text you can try control clicking (right clicking if you have a multi-button mouse) and choosing to download it, alternatively you can option-click on a link to download it rather than load the file

I just downloaded from Safari without any problems.

mime type issue most likley. Safari has a few vexing mime type bugs, so my guess is Safari is to blame.

I tried that David, but it downloaded a “download.html” page, not the actual file.

looking at what is set up there I am certain that it is a mime type issue. And I think it is a combination bug. There is a bug with how Mozilla coded the page and the way Safari handles the mime type switch.

If thats the case brendan you can let the file finish loading on the page, save it as a text file and just change the extension to dmg. It should load just fine.

It’s all right, it actually did work one time, and I was able to download it. It then proceeded to stop working again.
If it hadn’t worked, I was going to download Internet Explorer and then use it to download Firefox. :)

Can’t you use an old version of Firefox to download the new Firefox?

I could, if I had a version of Firefox on my new (soon to be returned) laptop. But I don’t. Hadn’t gotten around to downloading it yet.
