Earlier today Apple held their second press event in as many weeks, this time unveiling updated PowerBooks, PowerMacs, and a new proffesional level photo application called Apperture. Macworld has info on the new PowerBooks, PowerMacs, and Aperture.
So in the past few weeks Apple has completely revamped just about their whole product line, starting with the release of the iPod Nano, last week upgrading the iMac and the iPod, and this week updates to the PowerMac and PowerBook lines. The eMac, the last CRT based Mac has gone back to being education only. The Mac mini, which was released in July, recieved a modest upgrade in Septemeber. The iBook is now the oldest model, having not been update since July when the mini was announced.

Basically its because MacOS X is cleaner and simpler, its easier to use and more consistent in the way things behave. Things just work, you don’t have to jump through a million hoops to do wireless networking for example.
On the hardware side, things are generally better engineered and with higher quality parts, not thrown together with whatever is cheap.
Mac OS X is sleek and efficient. Windows XP is bloated and inefficient.
In addition the numerous inconsistencies, poor UI choices, and general bad design make Windows incredibly frustrating to use.
My Mac just works.
Now, thats not to say that Apple always gets it right, or that there aren’t things on Windows that are good too. Its just on the whole I find the Mac to be a superior OS and a superior solution all around.
Oh yeah, and that whole lack of virii and spy ware doesn’t hurt.

One more thing…great customer service, best in the industry by far

Hmm… I actually think Dell’s phone customer service compares rather favorably to Apple’s, in my experience. But the problem is, you need it way too often. :) And the Genius Bar is awesome.

Actually, Dell’s customer service was almost as good as Apple’s last year but has plummeted this year.

Macs work the way YOU think, not the way engineers think. Mac users can go from one Mac to another without having to learn anything again. My couisn had to replace her old PC last month, says she is having to learn again — yet it is still Windows XP.
What’s the difference between an HP and an Dell?

I’m probably getting a PowerBook in the new year; maybe it’ll be a Christmas present to myself. Haven’t told the wife yet. :-P

Briandot,
I would wait on the PowerBook, and here’s why. Apple, as you have probably heard, is switching to Intel chips from IBM, and the main reason they are switching is that Apple wants to produce a G5 series PowerBook. IBM hasn’t been able to produce a fast enugh chip with the power requirements for a G5 laptop for Apple.
The change over is supposed to start next year 2006. So if you wait, then one of two things can happen. As Apple swicthes to Intel, you have a choice: you can either a) wait until they start the switch, in which case they will probably drop the prices on the current G4 PowerBooks, or b) you can wait and get a G5 powerbook with better specs and probably close to the same price as the current G4’s. Maybe the G5’s will be more expensive, but the price should be comparable to the current G4’s.
And once Apple switches to intel there will be one more reason to own an Apple: you’ll be able to run BOTH Apple’s operating system AND Windows’s operating system on the same machine!!! You’ll be able to purchase Windows and start up an Apple computer with Windows on it, without losing the ability to start up the computer in Apple’s OS. You’ll have the ultimate choice and freedom.
Apple kicks ass.
