If you gave money to the Salvation Army (or some other charity of your choice) in response to my exhortations today… first of all, thank you! And second of all, be sure to log your contribution, if you haven’t already, so that the “total dollars raised” count on TTLB will accurately reflect the true generosity of the IrishTrojan-sphere! :)
Right now, we’re at $3,425 $5,655 $6,155 $7,884. A special shout out to “OCBill,” who made an amazing $2,400 contribution! Wow!!!

Thanks Ray!
Digipaws, that is great, and moreover I am certain the number is quite a bit higher, as I think many people didn’t know anything about “registering” their donation — Hell, I didn’t know about it until we discussed it on the Hugh Hewitt show!

Brendan,
By the way…just listened to the interview (I had B-School classes all day, so have been out of the “blogosphere” for most of the day) and just wanted to say that you did an excellent job!

Thanks again Ray! :) Also… my Google Ads made $39.80 today! woohoo!

Mine made $7.18 today…plus the other $19.13 this week…hmm…that’s $26.31 since the Hurricane hit the gulf. So, that’s 92 hours of blogging…carry the 2 and add the 1…I made a whopping $0.28 per hour. That puts me on par with a vietnamese teenage girl working in a Nike sweat shop! Woo-HOO!

Donating to help is great - and clearly it’s going to take a lot to recover from this dissaster - but what is the most effective way to immediately help these people still trapped in New Orleans? It is unbelievable to me that 4 days later this country is still trying to figure out how to get people out and how to get food and water and other supplies to the people who are still there. Maybe I’ve missed it, but I haven’t seen any presense at all delivering food and supplies to these people, who are dying by the hour.

Just to clarify, I’m simply looking for the most immediate way to get help these people. The government has been a major disappointment. And I’ve heard far too many officials talk about responding to requests - this disaster is far to massive to sit around waiting for someone to think to request help from the right agency.

I’ve seen stories where MRE’s were being distributed at the SuperDome. I haven’t seen or read much from any where else.
Part of the problem (a small part most likely) is that the MSM mostly likes bad news (pictures of corpses, tales of woe) because it’s sensational.
The major problem from top to bottom (Bush to the people of New Orleans) is complacency. Most of these people seemed to think nothing “that bad” would happen, so when it did happen they weren’t prepared. This includes government officials at every level and the people who live there. Once something “that bad” did happen, it seemed that everybody just kept assuming something was being done. The quote that gets me was from someone at FEMA who said they didn’t realize the Convention Center was a place refugees were being sent, so they didn’t know to send food/water/security forces there. The reason: nobody told them (FEMA). That’s just crap. They should be ASKING the local officials, not waiting to hear. Instead of multiple groups going “I’ve got it, I’ve got it”, you had them all going “You’ve got it, you’ve got it” if they even knew there was an “it”.
This has been a display of government at its worst, catastrophically failing the citizenry in what should be its primary job, providing for the safety and security of its people.
People like FEMA’s Mike Brown(?) who blamed the victims for not evacuating before the storm hit are worthless. It’s like he said, “Well, everyone I know has a car.” On second thought, maybe he would make a nice batch of soylent green (if you could strain out the BS first).
