Tulane vs. USM
Posted by on Saturday, August 27, 2005 at 3:11 pm

College Football Resource points out that the Tulane and Southern Miss football teams are scheduled to play each other next Sunday (Sept. 4) on Southern Miss’s campus in Hattiesburg, MS.

Whether that game actually occurs will depend on several things, including how badly Hattiesburg (~75 miles inland) is hit by Katrina, and perhaps more importantly, whether there is still a Tulane University come next Sunday.

As a Southern Miss alumnus, can I courteously ask you to correct the title to “Tulane vs USM” since the name of my alma mater is the University of Southern Mississippi? SMU refers to Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

    Oops! Thanks!

Not a problem - thanks for the coverage you are providing… I’ve been checking your site periodically since yesterday and I want to encourage the wonderful effort you are putting forth.

My mother lived in New Orleans when Betsy hit in 1965 - flooded her home up to the second floor and her and my aunt ended up with typhoid fever because of the lack of clean drinking water. Speaking with her earlier, she mentioned that with Betsy they actually broke some of the levees to let water drain from the city. I had to explain to her that as bad as Betsy was, this had the potential to be exponentially worse.

Incidentally, my mother is trying to encourage my aunt to evacuate Biloxi. I hope she is successful in time to get down there (parents live in Meridian) and get her out before southbound traffic is prohibited.

Well, LSU probably won’t be destroyed by a direct hit, but I’m hoping that their home game against North Texas on 9/3 gets stormed out nonetheless. That would leave them with no cupcake tune-up game to get ready for Arizona State coming into Death Valley on 9/10, meaning ASU has a better shot to knock off LSU and win the Pac 10 some respect.
