Andrew Long, a 2002 USC graduate, usually roots for the Trojans. Tonight, he’s cheering for the Spartans.
If Michigan State beats North Carolina in tonight’s second Final Four game, Long will clinch the tenth annual Living Room Times men’s basketball pool championship. He would be the first Trojan ever to win a Times pool.
If North Carolina wins, the pool champion won’t be decided until the championship game on Monday night. In that case, Long would need a victory by Illinois, which defeated Louisville earlier tonight to earn a spot in the title game. A North Carolina championship would give the pool victory to Notre Dame 1L Brian Kiolbasa.
To put it another way, Long needs the Big Ten to win at least one more game in this tournament. If the conference’s teams go 0-2, Kiolbasa will win the pool.

Meanwhile, in the BrendanLoy.com “second-chance” Sweet 16 pool, Blake Hanson was mathematically eliminated by Louisville’s loss, leaving the current co-leaders — Dmytro Aponte, Larry Caplin and Cam McLachlan — as the only contestants with a chance to win.
If North Carolina beats Michigan State, Caplin will be eliminated, and it’ll be down to Aponte (who picked Illinois) vs. McLachlan (who picked UNC). If Michgian State wins, all three contestants will remain alive, with a possibility of a three-way tie if the Spartans win the championship.

GO ANDREW! :)
April 3rd, 2005 at 3:40:53 am
Actually I was still rooting for UNC. I had that $50 in mind, and a Spartan win would have vaulted someone above me in the Bloggers Bracket pool, if I remember correctly (their scoring formula awards a ton of points for getting late-round upsets right).
