Quakers go dancing

The Penn Quakers have officially earned the first automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament! They’re widely projected as a #14 seed.

0 for 2

Don’t be fooled by the fact that I’m smiling and Mike isn’t. His Bruins just beat both of my teams by double digits in the course of four days. Ugh. UCLA 90, USC 69. UCLA 75, ND 65. Ugh.

Oh, well. At least the USC women won. And there’s a big water polo showdown today as well. Go Trojans! Beat the Bruins!

Meanwhile, Nick has to be happy. He drove all the way to Bloomington today to watch Indiana play #10 Michigan State — and the Hoosiers came through, stunning the Spartans 78-74 in OT to keep their faint NCAA Tournament hopes alive.

P.S. Against Notre Dame, UCLA was 14-for-22 (.636) on three-pointers… but only 10-for-29 (.345) on two-pointers!

In other news, one day after I “adopted” them, the Vermont Catamounts lost to Maine, 87-66. D’oh! Of course, Vermont, having already clinched the America East regular-season championsip and the #1 seed in the conference tournament, was playing without its two leading scorers… which may not have been the greatest idea for an at-large contender whose hopes may have taken a big hit from a bad loss like this. But I guess they’re making a judgment that they’d rather rest their stars, and increase their chances of earning an automatic bid via the America East tourney. The wisdom of that strategy remains to be seen.

The Irish made a valiant attempt at a comeback, but missed several good opportunities to get within striking distance. FUCLA wins, 75-65. ND precariously on the bubble. Mike Tran happy. Dammit. :(This message will expire on April 28, 2005

University of Washington, a football basketball school?

With their win over Arizona tonight, the Huskies are two wins away from a share of the Pac-10 title. Tonight’s win also gave them an unbeaten home record for this season.
