Why does it seem like scientists always come out with dire global warming predictions in the midst of cold snaps and/or blizzards? They’re making Drudge’s job waaay too easy:
Heh.
Figure this one out: for some godforsaken reason, I have the theme song from CBS’s late-1990s sitcom The Nanny stuck in my head. Ugh.
If I didn’t have class right now, I’d get out my headphones and put on some other, decent music on my iTunes — maybe some Garth Brooks, or perhaps the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack — and thus forcibly eject the awful Nanny song from my brain.
But nooooo, I have class for the next two hours, which means I’ll be sitting here silently thinking to myself:
She walked over the bridge from Flushing
To the Sheffields’ door
She was there to sell makeup
But father saw more
She had style!
She had flair!
She was there!
That’s how she became…
The Nanny!
No wonder it’s the most depressing day of the year… :)

Salem, MA and Plymouth, MA tied for the biggest snow totals from the Blizzard of 2005, with 38 inches each, according to the AP. Nantucket Island had the strongest wind gust: 84 mph.
The storm walloped Nova Scotia today, and is now hitting Newfoundland.
UPDATE: Here’s an animated GIF showing a satellite loop of the blizzard from start to finish:

I missed this until just now, but on Thursday, BoiFromTroy offered me and Becky some advice about our wedding invitation dilemma. Heh.

Letterman is in re-runs next week. Johnny Carson is his lifelong idol, and I was looking forward to seeing what sort of tribute Dave would do. I’m sure he’ll still say/do something, but we’ll have to wait an extra week to see it.
Leno will be live tomorrow night on Carson’s former show, and he too will have something planned, I’m sure.

All of Glenn’s links to blizzard-bloggers are worth following. I particularly like this photo:
The Weather Channel reports:
Some snowfall totals as of midday Sunday: South Hamilton (north of Boston) 29″; Boston 26″, Providence, R.I., 23″; New Haven, Conn., 16″; New York City 14″. No new reports have been received from Cape Cod since this morning.
UPDATE: Connecticut’s NBC affiliate, Channel 30, adds:
The Department of Transportation storm center reported snowfall totals across the state ranging from a low of 7.5 inches in Wethersfield to a high of 19.75 inches in Darien.
Wethersfield is right next to Newington, so it sounds like my parents’ area may have been spared the worst of it.

As my dad’s post below circuitously indicates :), it’s snowing hard in central Connecticut. And in New York, too. And Boston. [UPDATE: And on Cape Cod: seven inches of snow in 75 minutes, according to The Weather Channel! That’s almost an inch every 10 minutes!!!]
From the national radar loop, you can see how the snow tapered off, then redeveloped with a vengeance over the Connecticut/New York area. Ah, nor’easters.
My mom reports via e-mail:
storm surge expected around 9 a.m. in southern ct and long island of high tide 6-8 feet above normal. they are asking people in low-lying areas to evacuate if necessary
It’ll be even worse on Cape Cod, where snowfall accumulations could top 30 inches and winds could approach hurricane strength.
Meanwhile, it’s clear but 0° (up from a low of -2°, which is the coldest it’s been in the last year) here in South Bend. I experienced that frigidness firsthand a few minutes ago while walking the dog, who woke me up barking because he needed to use the facilities. (That’s why I’m awake at this ungodly hour.)

Well I’m not gonna try to One-up my Darling (hear Audio, Belowio :) - I learned THAT Lesson long ago; plus I can’t find a Blizzard Sonata for my customary Musical Accompaniment :) - but here in Central Connecticut in the Wee Wee Hours (that’s when I have to Get Up to…nyaah nevermind :) it’s still Snowing for to Beat the Band & 78.6% of it is making Landfall in my Driveway. Trust me; I did a Random Sampling. Margin of error 00.0001%. Just like in Dino Rossi’s proposed new Washington State Reformed. :) Hi David. :)
Yes & the wild Wind is Whooooing & my Windows are Rattling to it. / Of course you’ve never seen my Windows — well, except for You sir (inside fambly joke, fuggedaboudit :) — but This Way Here you’ll be more Impressed with the Storm’s mighty power. :)
Yes & so I went outside to take digital Pictures of the vast Catastrophe for my First&Onlyborn Severe Weathermonster :) and didn’t me oul’ Calves plunge clear to Memphis into the oul’ Driftings upon the Stoop. :) Yes & it’s surely Huffing & Puffing around here & so am I if you get my Drift. Now if that cranky old Snowblower will only Start up when I Venture out again at the Crack of Noon :), I’ll say a Novena in gratitude. Well. At least a coupla Are Fadduhs. (I bought it Used from Mike Dukakis y’know. Nonono not the Prayer; da snowblower, Boss, da Snowblower! Mint condition, Michael said. Built like a Tank going to War for Boston. This is what Worries me. :)
And in conclusion, it’s approximately as Cold as a Frog on the Mountain. / Thankyou.
That Is All. Hi Sean. :) Sean? Sean??? / Rmmph. Avalanche. Fie.
