Flunking history

Comedy Central’s Daily Show is usually very entertaining, but it became downright tedious on Friday, thanks to the self-important conspiratorial ravings of a “historian” named Howard Zinn who was Jon Stewart’s guest on the show. Instead of cracking jokes or offering any sort of legitimate insight, Zinn earnestly explained that the Bush Administration is willfully murdering thousands of innocents and basically destroying the world because of an “addiction to power” and a desire for oil. He also apparently felt that a comedy show is the appropriate venue to lecture the audience about the similarities between George W. Bush and Christopher Columbus, both of whom he described as genocidal maniacs. It was really quite something; this guy made Michael Moore seem moderate.
