I hope everyone is having a great holiday. In a few hours, we (me, Becky, her parents, brother, sister and brother-in-law) will be opening this impressive collection of presents:
That’s in keeping with the Zak family tradition of opening all presents on Christmas Eve, whereas the Loomer-Loy tradition is for each person to open one present on Christmas Eve, and the rest on Christmas morning. (I asked Becky earlier: “So what do you do on Christmas morning? Go to church?” Heh.)
I’m injecting a bit of Loomer-Loy tradition, though, by bringing out a couple of stuffed animals to witness the festivities. Note Hugh Manatee and Sully in the photo above — both of whom celebrate their birthdays tomorrow! :)
More winter break photos here.
UPDATE: ‘Twas a beautiful sunset against, and moonrise over, the Superstition Mountains here in Gold Canyon, AZ:

Where’s the festival of lights? I want my refund!!!

The festival of lights occurs at the beginning of the Christmas season — traditionally midnight on the day after Thanksgiving, more often recently at a convenient evening time on a convenient weekend day in late November or early December — not on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.
However, this year, due to finals and assorted 1L stress, I was unable to do a full-scale festival of lights at my Notre Dame apartment. I did a mini-festival on the Friday evening after Thanksgiving while visiting my parents in Connecticut, but that was not broadcast live on the Internet because a) my parents don’t have broadband or wireless, and b) it was sort of a slipshod operation anyway, put up and taken down in the course of a few hours… not up to my usual standards. :) Stay tuned for next year, though!
