The official recount of ballots in Washington ended today and Republican Dino Rossi still holds the lead, but it has narrowed from 261 votes to 42. That is less than 0.0015% of the total votes cast.
Democrats have allready sent Secretary of State Sam Reed a letter expressing some of their concerns, including counties with more votes than ballots issued and inconsistencies with absentee ballot counting standards.
It is likely that both Democrats and Republicans will pay for hand recounts in key counties.
Interestinly enough, Libertarian candidate Ruth Bennet may have pulled votes from Democrat Christine Gregoire with her position on homosexual unions. Bennet recieved 63,416 votes, more than enough to have tipped the balance one way or another.

Tomorrow morning, the Newington High School football Indians go for their first Thanksgiving Day victory since 1993… and their first playoff berth since 1991. Here’s a clarification of the playoff situation:
Newington will earn a spot with a victory or a tie against winless Wethersfield, and can get in even with a loss if three of its four “if” games come through: East Hartford over Manchester, Fermi over Enfield, E.O. Smith over Windham and Maloney over Platt.
Maloney over Platt would also give Newington a share of the CCC South championship, regardless of what happens in Newington’s game and in the other contests.
GOOOOO INDIANS!!! BEEEEEAT EAGLES!!!

OK, so there will be 156 parties on the ballot in Iraq in January. Out of the 212 parties that applied to be on the ballot, 56 were rejected “for failing to meet the criteria.” I just wish I knew what the criteria were . . .
UPDATE: Here are the requirements for becoming a political party (PDF format).

Attention fellow Newingtonians! Friday’s official Class of 1999 mini-reunion has been cancelled due to a snafu with the invitations. In its place, however, there will be an unofficial mini-reunion for everyone who wants to come, at Pig’s Eye Pub in Hartford, on Friday starting at 8:00 PM. (Here’s a map.)
Becky and I will be there from 8pm to 10pm or thereabouts. Others will be there, too! Come join us! Chat, reminisice, drink! All late-90’s and early-00’s NHSers are invited (not just ‘99ers).
Updated itinerary for the next couple of days:
Thursday, 10am: Newington vs. Wethersfield football game, Alumni Field, Newington
Friday, 9-10am: Coffee with Lud & friends, Starbucks, Newington town center
Friday, 8pm-?: Unofficial mini-reunion at Pig’s Eye Pub in Hartford
