DARWIN TO WITHDRAW, ENDORSE NAPOLEON

In an unprecedented move, Dollycratic nominee Darwin will withdraw tomorrow from the race for president, and will endorse Unity Party nominee Napoleon Piggywig, sources close to the Darwin-Sharky campaign say.

Darwin, right (seen during a nationally televised debate last weekend), will endorse Napoleon, left, over President Bun, center.

With barely a week until Election Day and polls showing him trailing the Unity ticket in even the most solidly Dollycratic states, the sources said Darwin has concluded that his campaign was hopeless and that he was likely to serve only as a spoiler re-electing President Bun — a remarkable conclusion for a major-party candidate, but one borne out by all of the polls. The most recent Adollyan Associated Press poll showed that President Bun was supported by 44 percent of likely voters nationwide, Napoleon was next with 37 percent, Darwin was far behind with 14 percent, and the remaining 5 percent were undecided or supporting another candidate.

Is Bush losing Ohio? Does it matter?
Posted by on Friday, October 22, 2004 at 9:01 pm

Slate’s Chris Suellentrop writes: “Lots of Democrats took heart when the blogger Mystery Pollster declared that Bush was losing Ohio. But Ohio isn’t this year’s Florida, the one state Bush can’t do without. It looks like Florida still is.”

Headline of the day

From Fark: “Men arrested for throwing pies at Ann Coulter; apparently were unaware that the only way to unmake her is to throw her back into Mount Doom.”

Heh.

Play ball!

The UPS guy just arrived with my Red Sox sweatshirt and socks. Now I’m really ready for the World Series!

WOOHOO!!!

I’m going to have to wash those socks every day for the next week, but whatever. :)

I bought Becky a pair of Red Sox red socks, too. Call it a tribute to Curt Schilling!

Many thanks to Becky’s parents, whose generous birthday check made these purchases affordable for me, and also to bestsportsapparel.com, the existence of which made it possible for me to order these items Wednesday night, just hours after the conclusion of Game 7 of the ALCS, and receive them at Becky’s doorstep on Friday afternoon, more than 24 hours before the first pitch of the World Series. God bless the Internet (and UPS Next Day Air)! :)

All nature seemed inclined for a rest

Sasha, Butter and Toby are all curled up in the kitty fetal position, lined up like ducks in a row, sound asleep in the living room.

On the floor next to Becky’s bed, Robbie is also sound asleep, with his nose poking under the edge of the bed as usual.

Meanwhile, on said bed, Becky is taking a nap.

Awww.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Just as I was posting this, the UPS guy arrived with my Red Sox sweatshirt. He rang the doorbell, which woke up all the animals from their siesta. Becky, however, is still sound asleep. :)

Wish List
Posted by on Friday, October 22, 2004 at 3:26 pm

It has been requested (by a parental unit who shall remain nameless) that I post an updated “wish list” of things I would like to get as gifts. I can’t imagine why anyone would be thinking about that topic now, of all times…

Birthday countdown in days, hours, minutes and seconds:
CODEBASE="http://www.brendanloy.com/applets/clock/"
CODE="CountDownClock.class" archive="CountDownClock.jar" WIDTH=180 HEIGHT=20>

:)

Anyway, I’m nothing if not helpful when it comes to giving people hints about cool stuff they can buy me, so here’s a list of things I would not be averse to getting for my birthday, Christmas, Columbus Day, Martin Luther King Day, whatever…

BrendanLoy.com goes commercial
Posted by on Friday, October 22, 2004 at 3:17 pm

As you may have noticed, I’ve added a small Google AdSense box to my left-hand column, and a larger AdSense banner to the top of all of my archive pages. Thanks to the genius of Google, the ad content is different depending on the content of the page that the ads are on. For example, compare & contrast the ads on my Election 2004 category page to those on my Law School category page. Pretty nifty, if you ask me.

I’ve also added a PayPal tipjar to my “About Me” box. So if you’re feeling generous and/or especially inspired by my website today, by all means, make a donation! :)

The overall theme here is to recoup at least a little bit of the money I put into BrendanLoy.com every month. We’ll see how it goes. But so far, so good: I’ve made 10 cents from my Google ads since putting them up last night! WOOHOO! :) BrendanLoy.com may make a profit yet! Next thing you know, I’ll be doing an IPO at the New York Stock Exchange…

Rock the Body…er Vote
Posted by on Friday, October 22, 2004 at 8:12 am

This is perhaps one of the more unconventional ways to try and encourage people to vote:

Will you be a Citizen, a Patriot or an American Hero?

Warning: May be inappropriate for children under the age of 17.
