Lords of the BCS, rejoice! Unranked North Carolina (3-4) is on the verge of stunning #3 Miami (6-0), which would substantially reduce the chances of three or more major-conference teams finishing the regular season undefeated. It’s 28-21 Tar Heels with 8:05 left in the fourth quarter.
But if North Carolina does hold on and win, will the voters of South Florida hold it against John Edwards? :)
Meanwhile, USC continues to roll.
UPDATE: Now it’s 28-28. North Carolina ball; 2:15 left.
ANOTHER UPDATE: North Carolina has a 41-yard field-goal attempt to win it with four seconds left. The kicker is a true freshman…
IT’S GOOD! NORTH CAROLINA STUNS MIAMI!!! They’re rushing the field! WOOHOO!
P.S. This is yet more good news for potential BCS party-crasher Utah. But the Utes need to beat the rest of their opponents, starting with 2-5 San Diego State tonight. They’re struggling but leading, 27-21, at the moment.
In other news, USC crushed the Cougars, 42-12, final. Fight on!
Now, Cal is playing Arizona State in a battle for second place in the Pac-10; the winner could well go to the Rose Bowl, if USC goes to the Orange Bowl. The Bears are leading, 10-0, late in the first quarter.

Miami will pull it out, they always do. Usually with some help from a referee.
What’s the mood on campus Re: Coach Ty?

“What’s the mood on campus Re: Coach Ty?”
I don’t have that good of a sense, but here’s a possible hint. :)

USC not only crushed the cougars, but after the first half they weren’t even playing most of their starters.
Interesting bit of trivia, today’s game marked the first time in history that a #1 ranked team has played in Pullman.
The previous highest ranked team? WSU who were ranked #2 in the 2002 Apple Cup when they were upset by an unranked Washington.

“WSU who were ranked #2 in the 2002 Apple Cup when they were upset by an unranked Washington.”
That can’t be right… Miami and Ohio State were both undefeated, #1 and #2, and remained that way right until the championship game, so WSU can’t possibly have been ranked #2… I remember WSU being upset that day by Washington (it was a great day for USC, because it kept our Rose Bowl hopes alive; at the time, we didn’t think we had any realistic shot at an at-large BCS berth, although that was eventually what happened), and I know WSU was Top 10, I think they were even Top 5, but they can’t have been #2…

If Notre Dame fires Ty, they’re dumber than I thought. He’s no Pete Carroll, but he’s a solid coach, and he needs more time to recruit the talent necessary to be competitive at ND.

I’m right: the highest WSU ever got was #3 in the AP poll, must have been that week… they dropped #9 after the loss to UW. They were the highest-ranked one-loss team (having lost to #2 Ohio State earlier in the season).

By the way, Cal shut out ASU 27-0. That’s two shutouts in a row for Cal. Very impressive. I hope they get to the Rose Bowl, and call me an apostate, but I think Aaron Rodgers deserves the Heisman, unless he throws up a clunker down the stretch.

Apostate! :)

Sorry, but in the head-to-head matchup, Rodgers looked far more impressive.

Thanks for the response. I already saw that post on “The Backer” but was wondering if you had your ear to the ground on campus.
At least they couldn’t lose this past weekend.
Just give the trophy to USC, already. Ugh. ;-)
