After a summer of watching the hurricane season from afar, I may finally get some first-hand experience with a tropical system this weekend — in Phoenix! Hurricane Javier (or, eventually, its remnants) is on its way from the Pacific, and the rain from the storm is expected to begin tomorrow.
Back in the Atlantic, it’s unclear what’s going to happen with Jeanne. It’s down to tropical depression status now, losing a struggle with wind shear and land interaction over Hispanola. It may redevelop, or it may not… and if it does, it may move toward the coast, or it may not. Stay tuned, as they say.

Alas, I have to take sides against Jeanne this time–no more rooting for wildly strong, beautiful hurricanes to lash that God-forsaken waiting room. As David noted, I am quite cold-hearted towards the residents of Florida, but it so happens that Bea will be passing through Miami on Wednesday, so now I have a vested interest in this thing dissipating and/or steering north of the peninsula.
