Can the judges be any more biased?
Fantasia comes on and her first song is awful, and what do the judges do? Blame the arrangement.
Diana sings her third song and hits a rough spot, and they basically tell her shes awful and blew it.
If it had been Fantasia you KNOW they would have said soemthing like “Well it was a little rough but you came back strong and finished well” instead.
    Bah.

There is a keen difference between the judges being biased and the judges telling the truth.

Fantasia was not at her best last night, esp. in the first song, but she proved that she could come back and redeem herself. Diana on the other hand did not SHINE in any of her tunes. She sang “dont cry out loud” horribly. Frankly, ive never heard her mess up that badly.”No More Tears” was strong but not nearly as strong as Fantasias’ “summertime.” However, the most obvious difference between the 2 singers came down to the Tamyra Grey tune: Diana pulled it off like a high schooler while Fantasia sang it like pro.

The arrangement of “all my life” that Fantasia sang was horrid and she didnt do much to make it better. Simon made that clear. But Fantasia’s stumbles were not as glaring as Diana’s….to be honest, i thought the judges were easy on Diana. These 2 women are supposed to be the best of the best but Diana is just out of her league.

  3. David Kreutz Says:

I completely disagree. Fantasia sounds terrible. Her voice is breathy and gravely and not pleasent to listen to at all. I felt like as she sang Summertime it felt like she was just vocally shoving it in our face. And yes the both made mistakes, Fantasia was just lucky hers was at the beginning so the judges could sing her praises later.

A good example of the difference in their talent did come on the Tamarya Gray song. Diane hit the long notes solidly and held them. Fantasia did the usally warble. Guess which one is harder to do vocally? Thats right hitting a note and staying on it.

If you want what Fantasia has to offer then you can just pick up a Macy Gray CD. They sound exactly alike to me.

The biggest difference I have noticed in the whole competition however is how the two girls act when they are singing. When I watch Diana sing I can tell she is enjoying it, she is having fun and that pulls you in and makes you enjoy the music. Fantasia on the other hand has always scared me. She always looks angry and it just feels like she is trying to intimidate you into enjoying her singing.

  4. Brendan Says:

Dave, you’re obviously prejudiced against black people.

    Just kidding. :) :)

I voted for Diana without having watched the show, but my American Idol buddy from work, Karyn, who has never liked Fantasia and was planning to vote for Diana all the way, ended up voting for Fantasia because the last song blew her away. That in itself is enough to suggest to me that Fantasia will win. It’s kind of like when Lyndon Johnson said, “If I’ve lost Walter Cronkite, I’ve lost the nation.” Except in this case, it’s that if Diana has lost my co-worker Karyn, she’s lost the nation.

  5. David Kreutz Says:

I voted 20 times for Diana, I think that should make up for it :-)

  6. Kate Says:

As a singer, I understand what youre saying about Fantasia, and to reiterate, she was never my favorite to begin with. However, Diana is pitchy and robotic and i couldnt imagine her voice on the radio. Fantasia is charismatic and a true performer. Is she the best singer in the world? No, shes not. Is she the best singer in the competition? Nope, that was LaToya and America voted her off weeks ago. But she certainly kicks Degarmo’s butt.

  7. Tasia Fan Says:

Dave: hitting a note and staying on it IS harder than warbling. But, as someone who (music teachers have told me,) has perfect pitch, Diana did NOT hit all the notes. In fact, she was flat on quite a few. You may not love the actual “sound” of Fantasia’s voice, but anyone who knows anything about music theory knows that Fantasia is technically better.

And just because black people “scare you” doesnt mean they aren’t more talented.

    Just kidding!!! :-)

  8. Kate Says:

    PS.
re: sustained notes in the tamyra grey song……
you are 100% correct that is much harder to hold out a note than to trill, and it shows off more vocal talent to control your voice in such a way. However, one must do that in tune and Diana only hits those notes in tune 50% of the time. Im not impressed though i would be if she were more accurate. I think Diana will be GREAT in 3 years, but right now she still sounds like a high school kid. I agree with you on one point, I do get annoyed with Fantasia;s styling of EVERY note. This is why i voted for Latoya up until the she got booted.

  9. David Kreutz Says:

I do have to agree with you there, I was hoping for a LaToya/Diana final. And yes I admit she had pitch problems on that last song. But I also see how much she has improved over the course of this competition and that shows me with a little coaching she can go places.

Fantasia, while yes Tasia Fan being technically skilled has pretty much been the same throughout the whole competition. Of course the real point about all this is that music can be quite subjective and given the right audience either one could probably suceed.

Oh and I’m not scared of black people, i mean heck Rueben would only scare me if i were a donut ;-) Women on the other hand, definitely scared of them…nothin but trouble :-D

  10. Kate Says:

    David:
Well at least we can agree on one thing: LaToya was ROBBED!
Music is absolutely very subjective. I acknowledge Fantasia’s shortcomings but choose to overlook them by personal preference and you acknowledge Diana’s issues and choose to be a fan anyway.
Im just glad Jon Peter lewis (or as i call him The Dancing Hobbit) didnt make it to the final. As much as I like hobbits, im not sure they are pop star material……hmmm, maybe Pippin, he gets quite musical after some ale!

  11. Brendan Says:

    “The Dancing Hobbit”

    LOL!

Pippin would definitely have won Shire Idol. (He would have some stiff competition from Tom Bombadil & Goldberry, as well as some Gondorian minstrels, for Middle-earth Idol, though. But perhaps he would have been able to win thanks to Hobbit speed-dialers with nothing better to do…)

  12. David Kreutz Says:

My friend Mallory knows JP Lewis oddly enough, he dated her friend. I guess its a Mormon small-world thing.

  13. Brendan Says:

Well, Becky’s parents know John Stevens’s parents, actually, and have met John at some point, I believe. I can’t remember the exact details, but Dr. Zak operated on someone in the family, or worked with one of them in his practice, or something.

Nyah, nyah, my six-degrees-of-separation Idol got further than yours did… :)
