I just got an email from ABC7 in L.A. — they project recall succeeds & Arnold wins.

I just landed at LaGuardia. It’s Cubs 6, Marlins 6, in the bottom of the eighth. California polls close in a few minutes. Suspense all around!

On plane. Game still 5-4. Exit polls show 83% of Calif. voters say they made up their minds a month or more ago.

At airport bar watching game. Cubs led 4-1 but just fell behind 5-4. Entering top of 4th.

Arnold wins, says Drudge
Posted by on Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at 5:53 pm

I’m at an airport Internet terminal that charges $5 for the first five minutes, so very quickly…

Confirming my dad’s reading of the TV tea leaves, InstaPundit reports that the Drudge Report says “exit polls show big wins for Arnold and the recall.”

I can’t get on Drudge itself, presumably because of heavy traffic, but feel free to try for yourself and see if you have better luck.

Cubs 0, Marlins 0, first inning. No “score” yet in California, of course, but Dad says TV pundits convey an “inexplicit but clear” belief that Arnold will win, based (presumably) on unspoken but known exit poll results. In other news, I am in Philly.

USA Today reports that Jon Stewart will provide live coverage of the California results on Comedy Central. It’s called “Redecision 2003.” Starts when the polls close. Heh.

Dad says TV pundits speculate that massive absentee vote means Davis must win election-day tally by a wide margin to survive. Meanwhile, I am on board plane in Phoenix, bound for Philly, due to land at 8:34 EDT.

Predictions

Red Sox in 7.
Marlins in 5.
Recall succeeds by 2%.
Schwarzenegger beats Bustamente by 4%.

Governator II: Judgement Day
Posted by on Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at 10:17 am

The polls are open in California. They close at 8:00 PM Pacific time — which, alas, is just 17 minutes after my flight is scheduled to land at LaGuardia, so I won’t be able to check out early exit-poll results on the Drudge Report or anything!

I make no promises about how much I will blog about the results tonight. At times I’ll be on the subway and thus out of touch; and even when I have a signal, I suspect up-to-date information will be harder to come by over the Wireless Web than it would on TV or on the real Web. And then, once I get home, I’ll need to go to bed before too long. So I’ll say this right now: if Davis is recalled and Arnold wins, the real drama will occur in newsrooms across America, as editors decide which headline to use: “HASTA LA VISTA, DAVIS” or “DAVIS TERMINATED.” :)

UPDATE: Click here for Los Angeles Times complete coverage of the recall. Or, for live results as they come in, check out the California Secretary of the State website.

As for bloggers, no doubt Andrew Sullivan, InstaPundit, and CalPundit will all have things to say.

And if you have something to say, by all means, leave your comment here!

Here is the collision. Amazingly, they still got the out. Sox lead, 4-2 in the eighth. More importantly, Damon is conscious and apparently going to be OK.

They’re taking Johnny Damon off the field after a wicked collision with Damian Jackson in the outfield.
