Okay, this is not me trying to be political. This is me being pragmatic. I know the justice department says they are going to mount a full investigation; however, there is the appearance of a conflict of interest because the Justice Department might be forced to investigate their own administration. Therefore, wouldn’t it make more sense to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate to avoid the the possible appearance of impropriety or favoritism? By appointing a special prosecutor yourself you demonstrate that you have nothing to hide. By forcing someone else to appoint a special prosecutor you make it look like you do have something to hide. This is to say, it makes political sense for the administration to appoint a special prosecutor and preempt an ability for the other side to say they dodged questions about impropriety.
I duno—what is your perspective?
