We're getting married!!! :)

As you already know, we're tying the knot on Friday, December 30, 2005 at Gold Canyon Golf Resort in beautiful Gold Canyon, AZ, 40 miles east of Phoenix in the shadow of the Superstition Mountains.

For those of you who live far away, here a few things to consider:

  • The weather in the Phoenix Valley is downright beautiful in December -- distinctly unlike such places as, for example, South Bend, Buffalo and Connecticut. :)

  • Southwest Airlines (among others) has great low fares to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.

  • There's lots and lots to do in the Phoenix and Gold Canyon area.

  • The resort has a fitness center, a spa, and even an art gallery on site, all for the price of admission. :) And of course, there's some great golf for you golfers. The resort also features a nice restaurant and a sports bar (very important for bowl season!).

  • Speaking of bowl season, the Phoenix Valley is a great place to be: you could go to the Insight Bowl (a few days before our wedding) or the Fiesta Bowl (a few days after), if you're so inclined (and if you can get tickets!).

  • Holiday trips to Las Vegas, which is an easy day's drive (or a short, cheap flight) away, are also very much a possibility.

If you're planning to come -- and we hope you all are! -- we'd recommend buying plane tickets as soon as you can, because it's the holidays, so rates will inevitably go up as the date gets closer.

Even more importantly, you should definitely reserve a room at the resort ASAP. Their rates are GREAT: just $119 for an awesome, luxurious casita that can comfortably fit six people (unofficially, of course :). And the resort is making those rates available for as long as you stay there, not just the night before and after the wedding. You get the luxury of a four-star resort for the same price as the Best Western down the street!

The best part is, each group of six casitas surrounds a partially enclosed courtyard, and our wedding guests will be grouped together around common courtyards as much as possible. So basically, everyone stay at the resort, and it'll be one giant party! :)

If you're coming by yourself, we highly recommend talking with mutual friends who are also coming to the wedding and reserving a room together, thus reducing your expenses and increasing the party atmosphere! We envision, for example, a "SHA girl room," a "Newington room," a "USC Trojan Hall reunion room," etc. :) If you need help figuring out who's invited and coordinating things, email us.

To book your room, call the resort at 480-671-5546 and make a reservation under the Zak/Loy wedding. For our fellow twenty-somethings especially, we suggest getting a $119 deluxe patio casita (two queen beds and a fold-out couch, so you can easily fit six people if you want to, and we have assurances from the resort that this will be fine). Alternatively, you can get a $109 standard patio casita (one queen or king bed and a fold-out couch) or a $189 spa casita (various arrangements, see link).

Regardless of what you choose, the rooms are beautiful, and the location can't be beat! We'll be getting married on the resort site, just a short walk from your rooms. So you won't have to worry about how you're getting home after our open-bar reception (top-shelf liquor! woohoo!)... you can stagger back to your casita in perfect safety. :)

Did I mention it's beautiful?

P.S. If you're up for two straight nights of partying, please stay through New Year's! We don't have any specific New Year's Eve plans yet, but we aren't going to leave for our honeymoon until Jan. 1 at the earliest, because after celebrating our marriage with our friends and family on the night of Dec. 30, we want to celebrate the New Year with our friends and family on the night of Dec. 31!
